Right-click Normalise.

I wish I could.

I tried it on my kids, I couldn’t make it work either.

I said, Click, not Kick

Oh! I tried the left, too. It also failed.

Bubba has posted this many times.. I'm not sure why he's negative to that approach.

Evert time you move a strip fader or an EQ knob you are essentially "Normalizing" that Track..

Ain't-that-So ????

Bill..

This sums it up pretty well.:

I like what this dude posted in another audio forum about “Normalise”…

"Normalise makes your poorly recorded, shite sounding tracks into LOUDER shite sounding tracks. Period."

Two words…

GAIN STAGING

Advice…

LOUDER does not equal BETTER

Skip Burrows’s comments are well taken-and-received…
They apply today just as they apply on the 5th of September 2009…
OR…

the 5th of September 1966, for that matter

Normalizing to “0db”
= .775 volts rms…

Normalizing to “+4db”
= 1.23 volts rms…

Normalizing to “-10db” = .336 volts rms…

In each case you are normalizing…
Normalizing in this case is a “Term of Reference”

In the n-Track drop-down menu, as I would believe IT (Normalize), to be
Normalize means “Term of Reference”…
In the Normalize window/screen of n-Track Normalize this can be adjusted from any " - " db reading to
any " + " db reading…

Having said that…
The “Strip Fader” on any n-Track strip can be made much more responsive if the Tracks were Normalized to lets say -10db before the mix session…
Than, if the Tracks were normalized to say -3db OR not normalized at all…
However, Digital Tracks in any Editor are much more responsive to Digital Plugs-ins if they were Normalized (In the order) of lets say in increments of -3db to -18db OR -15db… if the tracks are gonna be “Mixed In The Box”…

Again…
As a “Term of Reference”…
“Normalizing” does not mean bringing levels to “0 db”…
“Normalizing” means an “Inital Level of Reference” to begin a Mixing Session…

Using the computer to do that operation is much quicker than to try to do it “Outside the Box”…

I’ll just leave the comment/reply there for anyone to consider…

Bill…

Certainly… but in most cases when folks say “normalize” they mean to 0 dbFS which is typically not something you want to do.

Flavio has progressed a long way toward VU Measurement in the latest version of meter’ing sense he introduced the “K” method of meter’ing… Someone introduced a Digital Dourros <<<
Spelling…
Meter at just about the same time as he brought in the “K” meter…

sigh…
Anyway it’s not what you use to see VU Levels… It’s what you get used to using…

What I’d like to be able to see in a Digital Meter is, the “Overs” and… In real Time…
to know or have some idea as to what exact amount to “Push-or-Pull” a Fader or to see how much to Pan a Track…
all in Real Time…
along with typing in an amount and pushing “Enter”.
to to produce the change in a command…

Maybe, that can be applied to an Editor, some day…

Bill…

Okay. Cheers, guys.

Sorry man… was more tossing in a smart ass comment… didn’t mean to derail stuff. Though, you can do this in R… :D

Yep. Ctrl+Shift+N... that is IF you don't assign it to a custom menu for one click mouse access. :)

Hardly ever use it though...

PS The normalize settings are also user adjustable...

Bubba, UJ. I’ll be honest Normalising saves me puttin’ my spec’s on;-) And I imagined an optimum (not clipping) level/voltage would be more usable.

So what we talkin’ - -10db?
