When auditioning sounds by switching through virtual instrument presets, it is much less frustrating if the on-screen keyboard remains constantly active.
For instance, in Logic Pro, simply displaying the “MIDI Typing” keyboard keeps it active at all times without requiring any additional actions.
Similarly, Reaper features a “Send all keyboard input to VKB” option for its virtual keyboard; checking this box enables the function.
Does n-Track have a similar feature?
The keyboard keys are always sent to the current instrument when the n-Track effect shell with the instrument is visible. If you switch instrument or switch the preset of an instrument the effect shell will remain open so you can continue playing.
Some instruments, including the n-Track Sampler and Synth have < and > buttons to switch to the next/previous presets with a single click.

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, however, it seems that many external instruments do not function exactly as you described.
Every time I switch presets, the keyboard in the effect shell becomes inactive, forcing me to repeatedly click back and forth between the plugin window and the effect shell.
It works as you described when using n-Track instruments, though.Am I missing something?
The instrument plugin window is normally inside the effects shell with the screen keyboard on the bottom, unless you undocked the plugin from the shell or if the plugin is bridged. Could you please send a short video or screenshot showing the issue? Please include what operating system you’re usind and the version of n-Track.
