Share Project Between Devices

Hello. I use an iPad to make my recording with. I save the session to iCloud.

When I open this session with another device (iPhone for example) the session opens but none of the audio tracks are populated. What am I doing wrong?

When you need to share with another device make sure you save in Packed song file format (.sgw). The sgw file contains both the song structure and audio data, while regular song files (.sng) only contain the song structure and refer to .wav files in the Audio subfolder for the audio tracks data.

Thank you Flavio! Good info

New to N-Track and chose it primarily because I work over multiple devices at anyone time (we’ll ignore the linux conversaion for now grrrgh!).

Can someone please confirm;

On my Android phone: I do some track editing and save the file / project as (.sgw).

I log onto my mac book: Open a file and … there is the (.sgw) I was just working on. I make some changes and save that as an (.sgw) file.

I log onto my iPad: Open a file and … there’s the file I just edited on my macbook. I make some changes and save as as (.sgw) file.

I log onto my Linux PC and … (Grrrgh) !!!

3 out of 4 aren’t bad…

In summary - typical cloud operation in N-Track, across devices …

Or do I need to save to my cloud storage and load that file each time into whichever device I am working on …

Thanks

Lee,

n-Track normally saves on the local device storage, you’ll need to instead save the sgw to a Dropbox or Google Drive folder (this is slightly different on each platform, on iOS you can find the Dropbox/Drive folder in the save requester, on Android you need to do Share and then select Dropbox/Drive as the app to load the file with). On desktop you’ll just save and load to the Dropbox/Drive folder (if you have their app installed).

hello . i have a huge issue with sharing multitrack pronect. when im about to share to dropbox, google drive etc NOTHING appears which means i cant do anything but why???

in the picture u can see what im talkin bout.

I’m not sure of what may be causing the issue, when you select the share command and then multitrack song file, you should get a list of all the apps on the device that accepts files to be shared with, such as Gmail, Whatsapp, Drive etc… The Android system is managing the share box, n-Track just sends it a file to share with the app that the user selects. This works on our test devices. Do you have those apps installed (e.g. Drive or Dropbox)? Check with the Android settings if there might be something limiting the exchange of files between apps.

Looking at purchasing N-Track for iPad and also Mac so I’m also interested in how projects are shared/transferred between devices. Just in addition to the info above, can I ask how auv3 plugins are handled between iPad and Mac? Do Apple Silicon compatible auv3 (iPad plugins that work on M1 etc Macs in Logic) automatically work when a project is transferred to a Mac? And what about auv3 plugins that are not compatible - how are they handled?

Thanks so much for any info!

You can transfer a project between Mac and iPad using the .sgw packed song format. On Mac you can save as a .sgw file, on iPad select the Share button, then select ‘Share multitrack song file’. You can then move the file between the devices in a number of ways such as Airdrop, Dropbox, Google Drive etc.
Auv3 plugins that are installed on both the Mac and on iOS (and also have the same ID) should reload without issues. If a plugin cannot be found its name will appear in red in the mixer. If you re-save the song with the plugin missing (e.g. after having done some edits on the iPad), and then reload it when the plugin is installed, the plugin state should be preserved from the last time the song was saved with the plugin working.
