song wont play

i had an idea & wanted to get it down quick
i recorded a dozen tracks quickly & saved it in a new folder but didnt give it a title so it saved as new song
when i open it & press play nothing happens… i cant render it down & i cant save it under a diffrent name it is so annoying that i seem to have lost it
please dont anyone else say move to reaper becos we have it & use it but i was in a hurry & know ntrack better so i used it
any ideas how i can get this song to play? or what went wrong so i dont do it again

thanks

Do the WAV files exist still? Then I would say, gulp, drag them into Reaper, ‘save as’ to a new folder with the copy all media option, and be on your way.

As far as what went wrong, I always start a project in a new folder and save a project file to that folder. Otherwise N, Reaper, etc save to their default location which turns to a spaghetti heap. Why this won’t play i have no idea, but to prevent it, always save as before doing anything else.

I am a little unsure of exactly what you are saying happened: the fact that you did not give the n_Track program a unique name should not effect being able to open them as normally by opening the file fo0rm the list of recently saved files at the bottom of the File menu.
If you did not save the n-track file ( so the recently saved does not list the song) you should still have the wav files saved somewhere - files are written to the hard disk as they are created. You may have to do a search in Windows Explorer by date and locate the sound files on disk. If the .wav file exits - the easiest way to open them all is to use File > Import Select the files and open them all at the same time. Then execute a File > Save as to name the files and File > Move/rename to move them to unique named directory.
A good trick to create sound files with a unique name: Do a File Save As before you record anything. The sound files will be created under that name and where you chose to place them.
Hope this helps,
Bax

Might be spread out. Check the default save folder for n-track in “my documents” in there find ‘my music’ folder, open it. Some if not all of your work should be there. The new song.sng file is most likely there and your wave files are were you saved them. Just move the .sng file to the folder where the wave files are and it should work.

If it were that simple I would expect N to complain about “File such and such can’t be found… please point me to the file”.

Pffft... remember though... it is n you're talking about... What you might logically expect and what it does is seldom related. :disagree:

Yup. All day. I'm a scruffy funker and n is always nagging me to manualy locate files and draws a cross through the track and then, dragged behind three scantily clad animated cheerleaders, a banner with the words "Missing Flile".

Tina! Found the wavs yet? If you actually hit record, chances are, they're on your drive, somewhere. As above, loads of ways to recover stuff and n has a file recovery function somewhere, too.
Good luck, me'ducks.

PS. Did you play it back before you shut-down?
Is your default set-up to record audio? Check now!

sorry im not very good at making sense… i
never lost the wav files they are in the folder with the song file… what i meant was the song wont play when i press play so i have lost a new song i only just made & i cant remember any of it… it played back ok then i shut the pc down & when i restarted it it wont play now!!
if i import the files into a new song they wont be lined up & in sync cos i dont often start a take from the beginning

They will line-up. Click “yes” when asked.

Not unless all the tracks were recorded from the beginning.

Does ntrack 4 (Tina' version) support EDL export? One thing to try would be to export the project to an EDL file and then open that EDL file in ntrack (or other).

So Tina, what happens when you hit play?

Is it many tracks? If it's only a few you could make a note of the start times of each wav, create a new project, pull the wavs in and then adjust the start times. Actually IIRC ntrack has some kind of Project Properties screen that will give you all the information about the song. Take a screen shot or cut-and-paste into Notepad or Word and use to reconstruct the song.

PITA I know but won't take that long (I've done it before), and you will get your song back.

thanks evryone for the help ive got the song playing …before the play button wouldnt work it just did nothing

In the deep recesses of my mind a very dim light has flickered on. I think I remember this happening to me a few times too many years ago. I think you may be able to drag the offending track back out to full length... or delete the track and reimport the wav.
