Under Construction

Finally…
Work has begun…

Studio Under Construction

Bill…

Hmmm - no footer or stem wall ?? Couldn’t get away with that here.

Good to see progress though!

Did you ask any of the crew if they knew why your system hung on shutdown?
???

Is the slab as thick as the forming boards? Looks to be a 2x10 or 2x12 timber even. If so, what a slab!
I see the roll off for a ramp door entrance, width? Use rebar in the slab?

Could always pour a slab in the tower case, would staop the hanging on shutdown, but would probably cause hanging on start tho.

It’s built to code…
for here The permit called for an engineered pad.
Above (I don’t have the code in front of me)
then frostfootings are needed…
Under that Sq. footage
they don’t care…
This has (it’s not rebar)…
but some kind of welded wire 4" x 4" support… ????
Anyway, there were too many weather days here this summer season…
All the trades are complaining…
There’s some 10-12 yds of concrete there…
The slab sits on some 6" or more of 1" agragate…
then some 8" of concrete…
I don’t expect the walls and trusses to begin till early next month…
We’ll see…
That’ll go pretty quick when they decide to get At-It… The roll-up door is a 5’ x 7’…
or…
is it 6’ x 7’ …
?
I think…
and insulated…
I first considered a split-entry double door… However, their suggestion was a roll-up door…
We’ll see…
I think it’s gonna need some type of ventilation, as well…

The BossMan told me he has a fix for trouble’d computers…
He’s got it in the back of his pick-up…
He calls it an extended handle 5 lb stone hammer…

Anyway, it’ll be this time next year till any kind of tracking takes place in it…
It’s gonna stay as a shell till the power gets put in and insulation takes hold…
It’s gonna have a suspended floor…
sitting on 1/2" styrofoam sheet…

Bill…

[EDIT] This building is attracting a lot of neighbourhood attention… I noticed a retired teacher standing out on the sidwalk, this morning… I went out to chinwag with him… I was telling him I might have need for a lighting-and-cameraman… His reply was… NO… He wanted to be a StAr,… My reply was… Are you sure you got what it takes… ????

An update on the Studio Under Construction…

I arrived home at noontime to find a trailer load of material being unloaded… the guys will begin assembly of the Studio tomorrow, weather permiting…
It’s supposed to be a fine day…
so everything looks like it’s a go…
I have photos to post but no way to upload them… I’m connecting to the Internet through the Studio P-4 '98SE Desk…
It’s the only operating system that works… here…

My setup has Gone-to-the-Dawgs…

Update..
The building is up-and-roof-tight..
I expect it'll be complete by tomorrow afternoon..
We'll see..

Bill..

[EDIT]

I still haven't got a Lighting Man and Camera Man.. No one
wants to work for minimum wage, anymore..

I'll be using n-Track for tracking, editing, and mastering..
That's if I can get a computer to run..

Bill - if you can afford it now consider using the commercial spry foam insulation - you’ll save ton’s on heating. And it will sound better…

Looks nice Bill - got a name for it yet?
Don’t forget the beverage cooler.

Hi Gents:

It looks like another nice day…
The guys on the job are just great…
I hope that the construction doesn’t go at too fast a rate…
The details need to be considered at the same rate-of-speed as the Big Things…

You’re right, Poppa Willis,
I have been toying with the idea of providing some kind of acoustically clear ceiling…
to provide some frequency/energy trap…
to keep reflections from reaching the floor…
And
some kind of bottom end traps in the corners…
Cut sonotubes ??
16" ones, or soo…
???

This is all somewhere down the road…
Winter is coming on here Big Time…
I need to get it powered and all…
suspended floor…
the building construction is only the beginning…

Do you guys remember the Australian ??
I should remember him so well… Why can’t I come up with his name ????
I think he’s hangs out over on the AudioMinds Board… His acoustic treatment ideas would cover a lot of ground here on this project…

RADAR Wayne is a natural up here around acoustic treatment…
We just don’t cross paths anymore…

I notice the neighbours stopping out on the sidewalk while their pooches are walking them…
There’s quite a bit of interest in this thing…

Hi sevenOfeleven:
A name is very important…
It will give the building character… I already got the fridge…
I have to get a move on …
I’m running late this morning…

Bill…

Will you have an open ceiling up to the rafters? In that case… a cloud drop ceiling with like 6" of insulation on top (OC R19) will work wonders. Then 4 inch thick OC703 broad band absorbers in all vertical corners will help a whole lot.

BTW, the Australian is Willy.

Hi Bubbagump:

Thanks for the great reply…
Why is it I was unable to remember his handle ????
He was/is one great acoustic treatment naturals to frequent this Board…
There was some nice informative threads going on the subject matter…
as well,
the guy from Ohio…
What was his handle. ??

Anyway, I had a nice reply going to your post and this P-111 did a random re-boot…

Microsoft points to faulty ram…
but I did a Microsoft Ram analysis with their ram utility and it reports that the ram is O.K.
????
What gives…
???? I think this P-111 has reached it’s end…
I’m gonna miss this great machine…
if I have to replace it…

I’ll have the winter to ponder this acoustic conditioning…
The roll-up door guy is gonna install it over the next day-or-so…
I plan to connect a remote power opener and light sensors for the outside security…
Anyway, the guys are all finished and gone…
The concrete installers are supposed to do a man door walkway and roll-up door ramp…
We’ll see…
Inside…
I’m planning a suspended floor over the concrete…
The trusses and rafters could sure use your treatment ideas…
It needs to be powered-and-wired…
I think the building is just the beginning…
I need to get rained-on this winter by loonies…

I’m headed for another System re-build…
cause this ain’t gonna help the boot files of this operating system…
The files are gonna end up getting lost and corrupt…

Bill…

Hi Today:

We are forecast a Big Blow for tomorrow…
We’ll see how windy-and-wet it gets…
Today, I finished the Power Roll-up Remote Door installation…
There’s a wired inside remote and two wireless remotes…
Wouldn’t you believe it…
I find I’m unable to program the wireless remotes…
I guess I’ll have to call the Help Line to see what I am missing or get them to tell me what I missed…
I want to wire outside perimeter lighting to the power door drive…
so I can turn the lighting on from inside the house…
I thought I would be able to use those Low-Power Bulbs…
NO-GO …
the lighting will only drive incandescent bulbs…
All this is only temporary till the building gets powered and wired…
The photo link is the same for anyone interested in the photos…

I hope this storm comes as a rain event…
I’ll be interested to see how roof-tight the building is…

Wiring-and-heating the building is looming and floating to the top of the order list… I’ll be pricing Breaker and Branch Circuit Panel Boxes… and supply wiring… I think # 10 wire is in order… That stuff around here is over 7.50 a meter… I’m gonna need close to 30 meters of it… That’s about 100 ft… Copper is awful pricey… these days…

Bill…

Hey Bill, that latest track shows you somewhere on the east side of Hurricane Kyle, hope you got everything battened down! Landfall sometime this evening or night.

Hi Yaz:

I woke up this morning expecting a big blow and lots of rain…
It must be that the storm is slowing down, or we’re gonna be spared some of the weather that is forecast… Maybe, it’s gonna go to the west and come ashore over Maine…
Anyway, the sun that’s getting through the overcast has a strange light to it…
We’re at the whim of the weather up here…
and surrounded by water…
Just like Florida… We’re pretty vulnerable…
to whatever it chooses to do…
The cold water and air up here takes a lot of the energy outta hurricanes…
maybe, we’ll be spared again…

Bill…

Storm Update…

We’re getting rained on…
Big Time… It’s close to 8pm local time…
The wind is on the rise.
The forecast is consistent now…
It’s gonna make landfall close to the southwestern tip of the province…
Yarmouth area…
And run into the Bay of Fundy…
The eye is not well defined now…
It makes me think it’s gonna peeter out and become a Big Blow…It’s hard to predict these storms up here…
It’s the anniversary of Hurricane Juan…
It was 5 years ago today…
I thought it was just three years…
Time goes by…
It was somewhere between a Cat 3 or Cat 4…
We wouldn’t forget that one…
It was early January…
We got snowed in…
It was called White Juan…
It shut everything down for 9 days…

Bill…

That Bay of Fundy sure has some crazy high tides.
Good luck to you and your studio.

The building survived just fine…
Next is wiring, suspended floor, and insulation…

We’ve been over forecast on this storm… The wind came from a direction that didn’t cause any great damage… There was some tree fall…
There was some localized power outages…
But
No big storm surges…

There are places in the Bay of Fundy that has 60 ft. tides…
There’s few places in the world that can create tides with as much energy…
There’s talk of generating power with the tides…
But there has to be an alternate source of power when the tidal flow stops…
That’s every 6 hours…
About the only alternate source is nuclear power…to assist during tidal changes…
Wind can help… but that’s not predictable…
Generating Fundy Tidal Power may not happen in our lifetime…
they’re working on it…
However, it’s not gonna be cheap…

We’ll see…

Bill…

Studio Update:

The walkway is gonna be completed by Monday/Tuesday…
weather permitting…
That will complete the outside detail…
The wiring should begin sometime next week…
The materials list is being assembled over the next week I’d like to get it powered up and the building insulation-and-vapor barrier installed before the cold sets in… You can see in the latest photos that the sun is getting lower in the sky… The daylight hours are getting shorter…
I’m looking for a 60 amp entrance with 8 breaker panel circuit box…
