I think that’s great, and you oughta ask Poppa Willis if he’d do a full arrangement of it. :agree:

You have a great voice. My wife says that was really fabulous, also.

I’m still waiting for my arrangement!! :p Joking Tommy, I know you’re busy!!!

I’ll take a listen Ange tonight. Got no sound where I am at the minute.

A great little song. I’ll have to let my two and half year old grandson listen to it. I think he’ll like it too.

I too am on small speakers right now - I’ll grab my trusted sony cans and give some feedback in a few. I already like the “jiggyness” of it as in ‘jig’ not ‘Will Smith jiggy’… never mind… I’ll listen and get back Ange - glad you’re posting again by the way - I was wondering 'boutcha.

Ok - I listened. I really really love the feel of the song - your performance is great - tight harmonies make me giddy. Awesome there. - The compression becomes distracting. Well written though… you are getting better.

Anything I can do to help… seeing as how me and the old man have a lot in common.

I assume the EQ and compression problems I am hearing are from you mixing what sounds good to you in the room you are listening in. Once you get those ‘fixed’ or at least somewhat compensated for, your mixes will continue to improve.

Just my opinion - others may have a different one, but they would be wrong. hehehee

oh yea forgot - your rhyme scheme was rock solid.

it is a nice song. i, too, like your two-part harmony. your voice has a very soft touch that’s quite pleasing. i just grated 5 lbs of cheddar with my voice on the song i recorded today!
yeah, there’s too much compression. it starts to pump in spots.

overall, i like the idea, the finishing execution just needs some touch ups.

My ears can’t fault it Ange. Slight slight compression probs but that’s all I’m hearing.

Is Kirsty Macoll (spelling?) an influence on your writing?

Thanks guys :;):

I’m not familiar with Kirsty Macoll but i just googled her to find her singing ‘new england’ which is one of my favourite billy bragg songs (i was interested to find she wrote it, will give her stuff a listen) :)

I’m not sure! I don’t think I understand or am hearing what needs fixing… I know they sound quite raw, but I'm not sure what I'm meant to be doing with them. My vocal chords didn't come with a technical manual

If I send you a link to the raw packed files
http://angehardy.com/mp3/pigs_might_fly.sgw
is there any chance you could work some black magic on them so I can hear what you think they should sound like?
Ange x

Ange - I will download the file and give you #3 on my to do list.

(I’ll kick you up to #1 'cause yours will be easy - just don’t tell Craig, Bruffie or Kevin.)

Thank you Poppa, I really appreciate your time :)

You old charmer Poppa :) I can wait Buddy...anyway ours is a Willis/Brough song!

Ange....You don't need a technical manual for your vocal chords. Mixing is a skill to be learned and honed (I'm still trying). Your voice is a gift, you've got it or you haven't...You've got it!

Nice songwriting. Well done!

Ian

Can us other folks have a stab at mixing it too? Can I just download the tracks so I don’t have to listen to horrid a mp3? :agree:

Cool.

I downloaded and will give a listen on the DAW box when I get home.

You do have a nice voice!

D

hehe - now we got a mixing contest?

What a great crew we got here… You’re in good hands Ange.

Ange - please give me a short rundown on how you recorded this if you don’t mind.

Details like - I plugged my guitar into - or I miked my voice etc… you should not have this much compression on your vocals, and I’d like to know where it came from - did you "process the tracks with a compressor plugin? makes for a hard remix - you can’t undo that.

Man I sure do like the song though kiddo.

Do you have the real raw tracks? with no effects? I’d really like to know what I’m hearing is all.

:agree:

Tom - Bruffie - D - you hearing it too? is it simply clipped ?

Poppa, I hear too much compression on the vox, and I think there’s some clipping on the guitar (but I’ve been listening to rock bands for 30+ years).
Would be nice to hear a really clean mix on this. Voice is very pleasant and nice songwriting. Go to it guys!
