Terratec EWS88MT

This is old, as I’ve gone through this before. Apologies up front.

I’m trying to set up my Terratec card, and am getting no sound from 3 different apps (Sonar HS4, Cool Edit Pro 2, n-Track v3.3). I’m using ASIO in n-, and all has been well except for the absence of sound.

Also in n-, now that I’ve un-installed/re-installed once (how I hate that), I’m getting a funny (Not funny) little ‘burp’ reading on the left side of the recording vu meter, intermittently.

I’m nearly sick from it. I’m using a borrowed machine (from the guy who has mine) for a couple days, and don’t have time to really fart around with it. I have a family chore needing to get finished, and it’s entirely simple as it can be. Process and render-down a spoken service, cut it into tracks.

I’ll stop here, before I go into an embarrassing tirade. :) Anyone around got the Terratec going on? I know Vanclan does, but the forum, website, whatever won’t let me send a PM. Heh. He-heh… Heh-heh-hah-haaaaaaahhhhh!!!

Seriously, thanks. :)

Sloom,
Have you gone to > control panel > sounds and audio devices > audio tab to make sure your audio device is the selected one?

Ya never know…since it is common to 3 pieces of software, I would suspect your PC settings…nothing to do with the programs.

I have. And that makes sense about the different apps.

I'm thinking perhaps the device itself is broken. It took a short drop several months ago, when I wasn't using my PC (it has been in this state a long time). I'm looking into this angle now, and might be going after an M-Audio 1010LT pretty soon. But I've learned to thoroughly go after all options before I make a new move.

Thanks for the thought, G8.

Hey Sloom, Just saw your thread, but am at work. Check in the Phase88 control panel to make sure the EWS88 is “Connected” (I think it is on the Setup page). If the Phase88 isn’t communicating with the sound card, then either the sound card has a problem, or the cable isn’t seated good enough, or you are using the old Asio driver. Remember that there is an updated driver for it (I’ll see if I can find that link again).

Paul

Hey Sloom, I just check the PM sent messages - and everything is gone. So I guess the PM service is out of commission. So I can’t get that link from the last time we communicated. I’ll try and find it on Terratec’s webpage (it’s buried though, and very difficult to find).

EWS88MT drivers

Hey Paul,

I do have the newest drivers. I’ve been able to get sound into the PC, just not back out again. I’ll doulbe-check that connection idea when I get back to it, but it occurs to me that a good while back that breakout box took a little dive to the concrete floor in my basement. Only about 2 feet, but I thought of it today in the midst of my torment…

I stuck a Creative Audigy SE into the PC I’m using just so I could do the editing to my spoken recording. It was good enough to get this chore done, so the sweat is over.

Thanks for the return though, and for the link- I appreciate your time! Tonight I’m going back to it, to lay the finished tracks up for burning to CD. I’ll give a buzz later too, as I may try to re-install the EWS.

Note: You install the card first, then the drivers/Phase 88 panel, right?? :p

Talk to ye, thanks again.

Correct. But you might need to reboot after installing the Phase88 and drivers, even though it doesn’t prompt you to do so.

Hope you get it going again.

I just reread your response. If the problem is trying to get sound out, you may need to redo the signal routing (on the Settings page) eg. Waveplay 1/2 -> PCI Out 1/2, etc.

Paul

I think I’ve done everything here, and all suggested at another site too. I may well have damaged a connection in the breakout box. I am going to look for a tech who can maybe fix it- or get in touch with Terratec to see what they recommend. I’d rather fix it, if necessary, than splah out any more on stuff.

Anyway thanks Paul, I appreciate it. I got my CD’s done at any rate, so the big pressure is off! Yay!
