Test Pattern (Testomatica)

Test Pattern

After an evening of off-and-on frustration with n-Track, including a not terribly satisfying Asteroid No. 4 cover, I whipped out this little figurine of a tune with just my bass, guitar, and n-Track Drums. Sometimes stuff just happens. Now I just have to relearn how to let it happen.

Enjoy.

Hey, Billy, that’s a pretty hip sound. What’s the guitar and recording chain?

Stupid simple setup; it really shouldn’t sound this good since I did everything the way you’re not supposed to:

Guitar (Lotus str@t copy) and bass (homemade pieces-parts p-bass copy) straight into my M-Audio Omni / Delta 66, no direct box or anything. I just applied plain old n-Track reverb, I think the Large Hall setting with minimal tweaking; possibly some eq, but not much else. Drums are a ridiculously simple pattern in n-Track Drums. Mixed thru headphones. Fades applied in Acoustica, a shareware editor.

I agree, it’s a pretty cool sound, and the thing of it is, I came up with and recorded the whole thing in less than half an hour late last night. You know, it actually sounds like two in the morning. Very cool what you can do with very few pieces.

Sounds good Billy. Very hypnotic, now I’m spaced out!

Yaz :agree:

Nice - very dreamy but with enough melodic structure to keep it interesting.

It takes me forever to get around to listening to others
music 'cus I only have dial-up.

When I listen to someone elses stuff -
I have my frame of reference (what I listened to all my life)
So, I don’t want to tell someone they sound like so-and-so.
But, I like what I heard.
And my frame of reference would liken it to
Pink Floyd - the Meddle days (which I thought was great mind
freeing music)
But the bass was better - more melodic.
Nice job.

I agree with that, only maybe a little earlier than Meddle!

I spent many an altered moment listening
to ‘Echoes’ - from Meddle.

Ahh - those were the days

“Altered states” oh yes! Meddle with the mind!

One of these days it’s gonna cut you into little pieces.

Somebody shoot that frikken Albatros hanging motionless overhead! It’s crappin on me guitar. :p

Sorry 'bout that.
