Any student, or former student; or former struggling musician, or still struggling musician, who smokes, will know what the re-tread tin is.
All that nasty dust from the bottom of the Old Holborn pouch goes in it. Substantial fag-ends go in it. The crumbs from on top of the LP after rolling a joint, go in it; those dust bunnies of tobacco that have fallen on the floor, go in it.
You know what I’m talking about: At the moment you have a packet of fags, or a pouch of baccy, but, midnight tonight, you might not have; so, the retread tin, jam-jar, whatever, is your emergency supply.
And it always tastes foul.
Anyway, at the moment, I am rolling ciggies from my re-tread tin.
I just came across a “lump” of something that I hoped might be interesting, but sadly, it turned out to be mostly tobacco; tobacco with a screw in it.
Only a little screw, 1/4 inch 6BA or thereabouts.
The thing is, it is black. Black and tar encrusted. So I figure that I must have smoked it at least half a dozen times already.
anyway, I’m starting to think,
really think, that I need to get a new life!
So, what levels of desperation have you descended to, my fellow smokers?
ROFL… Well I can’t help much my friend. I don’t smoke cigs, fags, pipes OR tar encrusted 1/4" screws. (I admit I enjoy a really good cigar once in a decade or so…)
I thought this thread would be about old tires… maybe smoke on of those?
D
It’s been quite a few years since I smoked anything other than tobacco, but I know what it’s like to run out to the car hoping a half-smoked cigarette might be left in the ashtray.
Fondest memories, stuck at the house with no transportation, run outta smokes, start tearing the place apart looking for a cig, “voila” there in the inside pocket of a Jacket that hasn’t been worn in 4 or 5 years is an ol stale opened half pack of Camels! Fire one up,
Cough attack,
This cig sucks,
7 mins later I put it out!
20 mins later I light the 2nd one,
Hey this one ain’t as bad as the first,
30 mins later I light the 3rd,
1 hour later wondering where I could purchase a 4 or 5 year ol pack of smokes!
Now that’s truley addicted in anyones book!
Edit, BRB, going for a smoke!
Jeez, I understand that they’re putting in a
chemical in the cigarettes now that’s supposed
to keep it from burning too long. MD - has it
and it really sucks. My smokes are going out
everytime I lay one down in the ashtray.
This is really a California issue.

LOL, I hear ya seven!
Just what's needed in America, another watch dog group telling me how to live, telling me what I like, telling me how to walk.
1984/Orwell "Big brother is watching"
It is here for real!
I like those warnings that say “This product has been determined to contain possible carcinogens by the State of California”.
What? The overpaid analysts of the State of California are smarter than the overpaid analysts of the FDA? Or does that mean if I walk across the line into Nevada the carcinogens evaporate out of the product? Can I safely use them all I want as long as I never go to California? Does the Pope crap in the woods?
I ain’t going. It never rains in California. I like rain.

Never got hooked by the tobacco bug! But desperation? Well…I remember one Winter in the UK, searching for old shoes in the cupboards so that I could burn them in the fireplace to keep warm. Swore I would never be in that position again!
Considering the location of your current abode Ian, I think you don’t have to worry about burnin’ the Missus’ shoes to keep warm.
I dunno… What are the night time temps like there? I know in some desert regions it can be 120 degrees F in the daytime and drop to almost freezing at night… shudders

Daytime just now, around 42C....3am when I leave Gigs point music bar, 32C.
No old shoes required!
42C = 107.6F
32C = 89.6F
Holy Molten Mercury Batman!!!
I changed my mind about coming to work over there…
That’s just about “hellish” Ian… geez… I guess you worry more about your shoes melting off your feet rather than burning them to stay warm!

Actually hit 49C a few days ago. The leather seats in the car were not a good idea
