This site fucking sucks!

And I’ve had enough of it Flavio.
:frowning:

Ok, you won’t recognise my handle folks, neither do I for that matter, because it’s brand new, and I won’t be using it again.

For a long time I’ve been contributing to this site, and for the the past several months, it’s been a right pain in the arse.

I can’t log on. Oh, it tells me I’m logged on, but then it says I’m not.

So, I re-register, different email address, different handle, and that suffices for a wee while, but, not long.

And it’s been this way for months, and months.

Yeah, I know the problem we had a while back with all the spam, and I suppose this is your answer to it.

Well Flavio, for weeks on end, myself and other members, pointed out to you that if you made the “Anything Else” forum members only, then most of the spam would disappear.

You ignored those suggestions, till, all of a sudden you announced that you’d found the cure to the spam, which was, to “make the Anything Else forum members only”!

I’m impressed.

But, it seems that your current implementation of a “solution” also keeps regular members away, so, is your solution a really good solution?

Anyway, I’ve had enough. I’ve struggled through the horrors of n-track v4, I’ve put up with all the crap on here, (although, to be honest, I’ve enjoyed a lot of time writing and reading on here too, and I’ve grown very fond of many of the people on here).

But, life’s too short, and if you can’t make a usable forum, then I’m buggered if I’m going to waste any more time on it.

Wheesht Man!

Never say never! Yes it is frustrating and I have only posted once or twice in the last month. But you have had fun on here with some good people, hang on to that and maybe take a break for a while,
Lang may your lumb reek,
Take care,
Ian.

Phoo responded to my thread about this as follows:

"Try adding .fasoft.com and .ntrack.com to the trusted internet sites list in the browser’s security properties.

One other issue is that the forum is displayed in a frame, and that may cause issues with the cookies and security settings. I think adding both may help with that.

AND…another issue that was a problem in the past, is that if the check to remember you so you don’t have to log in again is not checked you may not be able to log in period. I definitrly remember having that problem in the past.
"

Might help?
And I’m sure folks here would be happy to see you stick around, dude.
This whole PC trip is full of mostly problems, and this is a pretty hip community of problem-solvers.
FWIW.

I just tried what I posted, and it’s not working. I want this to end also, as I don’t have tiime for it! Anyway, sorry!

Hey Flavio, what’s up?

I’ve had problems logging in if I go via www.fasoft.com but if I go via www.ntrack.com all is fine. Once I’m logged in though it doesn’t seem to matter.

never had a problem…and V4…you need to upgrade to v5…a lot of v4 problem just go away…

I'm sorry for the problems you are having with the forum. However I don't really have much control over it as the forum software is basically a shrink wrapped product that I've installed on the server and I don't have enough knowledge on how it works to try fixing the login problems you are having. It seems to work for most users so I guess it's a problem related to a specific browser, browser configuration, network settings or combination thereof. I will continue installing new versions of the forum software as they appear and that would hopefully make thinks better.
I didn't as you suggest make any change to the way users can login to the forum. The solution to the spam problem (which seems to have worked so far but will probably need fixing in the future as spammers get more sophisticated tools) is to have new users do the human/machine detection step (the one in which you are asked to recognize some garbled characters, proving you're human) which was supported by the latest two versions of the forum software that I have installed.

Flavio.

Eyup!

I have my browser set to automatically log on when I visit the forum.
On the index page I am shown as “guest” but when I click on one of the forums I am recognised.
So I never bother to log in manually and never have had a problem.

V4 was another matter though :disagree:

Steve

I have never had any trouble logging into the forum (withthe exception of the few times the n-Track server crashed). V5 works here too, except for the few quirks about not being able to do 24 bit mono recordings, the lag problems using SIR 1 convolution reverb VST plug-in as a send effect in an aux channel, and some sync issues when using both midi and audio in the same project. The first problem is new in v5, but the latter two has been haunting me since v4.

Still, I like the program FWIW, as long as I have Samplitude 8 SE and Cubase LE lying around on the same system. I use n-Track for audio tracking and some midi work, Cubase LE for the more challenging midi tasks, and Samplitude for mixing.

Don’t get me wrong - n-Track has gotten a lot better the last few hundred builds, and who says you should be able to use one piece of software to do it all in?!? If I wanted a screwdriver, a knife and a pair of pliers I could go and buy a Victorinox all-in-one pocket tool, but I might get more bang for my buck if I just went out and bought a good screwdriver, a sharp knife, and a decent pair of pliers…

As I state ever so often - YMMV.

regards, NIls

Never Mind the Bollox!
N-Track rocks my world!

:D

Here’s one for you, Bollox - what famous case held that “bollox” is not an obscene word?
And did that case also hold the same for “fucking”?

(see, guys, we’ll entice him back…)

Hi Gents:

It wasn’t much more than a few days ago that I had a log-on issue…
I somehow, fixed it and got it behind me…
after trying a number of new IDs and passwords…
Beyond that I have no idea what started the Log on issue, what caused the Log on issue to go away, or anything in-between…
Right now and for the moment, all is fine…

Bill…

Hey Bollox,

After deleting my cookies, then doing a system restore (!), I went into Internet Properties from the Browser:

Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Advanced button.
Now if it’s not checked, check the box that says “Always Allow Cookies”.

Might do it… it just worked for me.

I haven’t had any problems logging in, although I haven’t logged in for awhile.

It seems the forum software used here is an RC (release candidate), which while it may be a pending candidate for a stable and final release, it could also mean it may still have some bugs. I don’t know what the logging problems have been with some people, but an unstable forum is just one of many factors and I don’t exactly know what has been going on. The suggestion fixes above may help.

If I may recommend another forum software, try SMF at http://www.simplemachines.org . Version 1.1.3 is the latest stable, but it is now heading into v2.0 land. I use it and it works very well for me. I install other forum brands, so I’m not limited to SMF. It’s also free, much like Ikonforum/Ikonboard. To be honest, I’ve seen horror stories with Ikonboard in the past. I don’t know how it will be with the new Ikonforum series (which is a step up from Ikonboard), but just so long as it keeps getting patched for security and features, it should be ok. I could also probably download and install Ikonforum for my own purposes.

The graphics detection system that Flavio was talking about is normally called Captcha Code. It really helps against most bots (perhaps 99%?), depending on how sophisticated your code is set up, but you never know… newer bots (potientially capable of fuzzy logic visualization systems) are always getting invented and getting smarter, hehe.

Glad to hear it worked, Sloom

Thanks. I tell ye, there's nothing to put one through a seemingly needless superfluous emotional roller-coaster ride as the universe of code-related pitfalls a "computer" offers up. One of those "modern problems", such a side-bar to real life if you don't do this for a living!

So Bollox, you still here? You work this out yet? How's those guts holding up? :( :D

Now, back to music....

Re: Nils K’s post:
I have a Victorinox - it’s fantastic - use it all the time.
Never had login probs. But I’ve always been weary when
Windows asks me if it should remember my login password.
Probably not a good idea ?

Hi sevenOfeleven:

Sometime I find myself taking a second look at that request at times…
I never seem to remember when the question comes up what i should do…
80% of the time I make the wrong choice…
And now I find I have a bunch of “Saved” I.D.'s and passwords I’d like to delete/remove from that file…
BUT…
I don’t know where to look for that folder…
If I wanted to go in there and edit/remove some or all of those saved files…
Where would I find that folder??

Bill…

Hi woxnerw,

Wish I could tell you where to look.
Win (XP) OS is so convoluted - it’s like
one of those fractal images that folds into itself.
Very twilight zone. I guess that’s what scares me,
'cus goodness knows whats on my computer where.
But I’ll do a little digging and see if I can shed
any light. That’s the ‘one’ thing I like about Linux,
- I know exactly whats on the computer and where it
is located.
