Yes - and what seems interesting to me is that those rules are moral rules that are used to guide interpretation. So there is a set of rules that is more basic than the revealed text, in light of which the text is to be interpreted. My sense is that this sort of approach to the text - granting the moral rules conceptual priority - it really common, but not widely recognized for what it is.
