Track Line-up Issue

When overdubbing

Hi n-Track Users:

I hope Flavio will get the opportunity to check this issue I discovered while re-doing this Bass track on this project I’ve been working on…

I’ll try to describe in my best Bluenose Dialect…

Here’s a Print screen of what I’ve been working on…
However, it doesn’t show the detail of the issue…

I have “Markers” set on the timeline to outline the area I wanted to re-record the new track…

Everything went fine till I started to look for the track…
I knew it was there cause the blank area of the track was on the timeline…

It was at the far right-hand OR
end of the song…
Not where I thought it should be…
In-Sync…
OR…
With-in the “Marked/Marker” area of the timeline…

In order for the new track to be in sync
have I got something not set correctly in the Settings/Preferences
????

What could the issue be…????

Bill…

You’re up against the old "It don’t Work Like it used ta"
Punch-in has it’s own menu bar now:
Right Click on the Main Tool Icon bar at the top of screen and select “Punch-in/multiple takes” menu
The Punch-in Menu bar is displayed.
Check out the Icons, then
Highlight where you want the punch-in to start and stop.
If you want new tracks, highlight all the way down the screen.
If you want to record on top of an existing track highligh only that track.
Use the “Start Punch-in recording” icon.
Play with the features some.
You can use this several different ways now, even put one “Take” on top of the exiting track and then move it to a new track.
Pretty cool :agree:
Bax

Thank you bax 3…

It’s been so long sense I’ve done any amount tracking that it would never have occurred to me that Flavio has updated this stuff…
I remember back in build 1516, or when I was tracking…
I would do the track over again…
instead of playing with a couple of inserts and cross-fading inserts, or whatever it’s called…

I should spend some time with n-Track and learn what all it does…
Maybe, I should read the manual, as well…

Bill…

p.s.

I think I know why I’m into all this sync’ing issue, as well…
I started this project out with a 48 khz. sampling rate.
There’s so much sample rate adjustment “On the Fly” going on, that it’s impossible to sync up to all the sample-rate conversion that’s going on, from Track-to-Track, and all…
[EDIT]
My chopps are so poor… And so, is my playing… I should have been able to pull that track off on the first take… I used to be able to do it when I was Jingle Playing…

I looked at your screenshot, and that was my first question. Why doesn’t he just plug his bass in and nail a take or two?
You really ought to - you know it too.

Thanks Poppa Willis:
My playing ability is really disgraceful… I need to get back to practicing an hour-a-day… and… and…

Have a nice Labour Day… Everyone…

Bill…

 Ya that's a little much bill. Um did you know that your lineing the notes to the back side of the beat lol Just teasin.
I had a drummer sip a few to many vodkas on a take one time. I knew I wouldn't see him again for another month so I chopped the drum track like your doing there. It took me 8 hrs to edit it.
A few notes are ok but to labor like that is wasting your time big guy.

Man how many time do you have to log in here to post any more?
Practice with a drum track bill.

This is the first time while working on a project that a sync issue has come into the picture… for me-and-my setup…

The notes begin to lag after about 10 seconds into the song…
The only thing I can think that has caused the issue is I began the project as a 48 khz. sample rate…
The original two-track was from an mp3 file that was mailed to me…
So…
everything was against the project right from the get-go…
I make no excuses for my playing other than I have now downloaded the chord chart for the song
and…
Someday I might consider doing the track as it should be…
The thing I have gained from this exercise is I honed my editing skills using n-Track v6.0 beta 1… 2… and 3… and uncovered some BUGS-and-FIX’s for V6.0 and updates for v6.0.1…
and all…

I’m still drawn to the art-and-craft of tracking and editing using n-Track…

Bill…

p.s.

Most times I try to take something positive away from an otherwise lost effort and project…
and take that experience into the next effort…

rbops (the guy who maintains the page I have) says the same things…
I was telling him and the guy who sent me the Two-Track that the acoustic guitar track on that mix/song is simply awful to play to…
AND…

the two-track doesn’t have a drum track or kick… either…
AND it’s not likly there was ever a click track laid down when the guitars were recorded… as well…
trying to cover for my playing ability doesn’t wash with me …
either…

It’s a good thing I never quit my Day-Job…

I posted yet…
another update to the

PROJECT

I hear the bass style for that completely different Bill. I hear more of a walking bass line - know what I mean? Lord bless ya for takin it on though. I would have never even tried it without some kind of ‘cueing’. Those are nice guitar parts though. Some nicely imaged string parts may be more apt for it. I can hear that too. Gulluck my friend.

I hear that flavor, as well Poppa Willis:

I’m back to work tomorrow…
after being off all summer…
When things settle down I may take it on again…
It’s funny what the mind hears that the hands can’t do…
The guitar part is incredable…
The saying is, if it’s good it (the bass line) can be done (played) in almost any style…

If I was Willie Weeks OR Michael Rhodes OR one of those guys…
they’d be all over it like a Blanket…
AND… Those guys would say… There… It’s done…
What else Ya Got…

Glenn Wharf <
(spelling)…

He’s my present-day idol…

Bill…

Glenn Worf is his name.

:)

What ever became of Brent Mason?
Do you know Eddie Bayers?

There's probably many guys that I'm not even aware of..but.. I think you know them all..

You know, if you don't use these guys on your projects you may as well forget about doing it..

Ya gotta count on spending a million dollars to get discovered..If you don't..
you ain't going anywhere..

There's more to it than playing your guitar or chin-wagging, in front of a microphone..
I think..
and...
what do I know..
anyway..
????

Bill..

[EDIT]

Many of the guys who knew how it was done and could communicate with the down-to-earth/everyday people are not with us anymore..

I dunno what Brent is up to theses days - I used Eddie Bayers some when I worked at the little Warner Bros in house studio. Eddie was using triggered samples as far back as 1986 I recall - his own of course. You’d be surprised on the money end - a lot of those guys will do ‘spec’ sessions just to help folks out once you get to know them.

Eddie Bayers sounds so good on the recordings he was used on… It takes a lot of work to make what he does sound so smooth…

I hear you Poppa Willis… You have to save a little water to prime the pump…

A hundred guitar players can do the same track but I though I could always pick Brent outta the pack…

Brent got more work from bein’ a politician than a picker - In my opinion. My favorite session guitar pickers were Fred Newell and Greg Galbraith and Don Potter whenever I could get him on acoustic. I often scheduled my sessions around Don’s availability.

It seems to me that at one time you had your finger on the pulse of Tunetown, as you call it…

I’m sortta surprised that you describe Brent as being a politician…
To me most musicians distance themselves from being around-or-near that lifestyle… It could be that’s where he is today…
as opposed to doing session work…
He seemed to have a gift to dress up lines he played without overdoing it…
That guy was pretty good…
I think if you close the door on that kind of work it’s tough to open it again…
and…
if-in-fact Brent vacated the scene there are always a dozen other guys waiting to fill the void…

That place is a magnet for first class players…

It seems to me that recently the world of music and entertainment is going through an ebb or quiet time…
Maybe, waiting for the emergence of the next super star to come onto the scene…
It’s gonna be tough to top what has come along in the past 60 years of music and entertainment…

Bill…

p.s. The name Fred Newell sounds somewhat familar… However, I don’t seem to remember/connect him… unless it was in-and-around TNN… and TV Work… during it’s Big Years…

When I was a young guy I wanted a tape recorder, and wondered what I would do with it if I had one. lol The idea of recording was fascinating.
You know Bill to me producing and editing is definitely as much fun as playing, nTrack makes quick work of that for me.

I started recording bass parts for some of my songs and was amazed at how hard it was to keep a simple boogie rhythm in time. Like 2 eight notes for a quarter beat.
Seems simple but it wasn't exactly easy. I didn't practice, just plugged in and recorded a couple takes, and chopped some of that. Much easier for me on a six string!

No lost effort. The worst thing is to try to force a song to be one way. I jokingly say sometimes a song will show you want it wants to be. There is some truth to that!

Will that project stream off the web?

It’s MP3…it might…it might not. MP3 isn’t a native streaming format. Some players/servers handle it better than others.
