is it the DIGI001?
The past few weeks have seen major upgrades to my home system - from 256 megs of RAM to 1 gig, from WIN98SE to XP-SP2, from the Delta44 to a DIGI001, and (finally) from nTrack4 to ntrack5. Everything is working well (after a fair amount of fiddling), except when trying to monitor the live inputs from the DIGI. If I click on the hammer icon in the recording meters, I can click on the ‘monitor’ button (either one of the two) to turn it on (or off, then back on), and I start getting sound from the mics. Unfortunately, if I then click ‘OK’, the sound goes away. BUT! If I click on ‘cancel’ instead, I am able to continue monitoring the live inputs, at least until I make any change to my settings; then I have to go back into the meters and re-do the clicking/unclicking trick. I thought I would check here for advice before bugging Flavio, since I do have a work-around that works…
BTW, I ended up paying for ProToolsLE6.4 just so I could get the full (midi and asio) drivers for the card, and nTrack is having no trouble accessing most of the DIGI’s features! Yippee!!! What is interesting there is that I cannot get PT to play back midi at all - but both n and reaper work just fine - go figure!
One more little thing; has anyone had trouble with n re-setting the ‘keep devices open’ button? The DIGI needs to have that turned off, but every time I check the settings it has been turned on again. Generally this is no problem unless I want to change from 44.1 to 48 - then it locks up n for 5 or 6 minutes! That one I may have to ask Flavio about…
Thanks in advance!
'til later;

Hmmm...never experienced that, but I don't THINK it's anything with the 001? It's been awhile since I used N with the 001(like...early 3.3 days...)
Will try it tonight when I get home and see if I can replicate.
Cheers,
C
PS, never had much joy with the midi in PT. Good luck.
Thanks Clark; I look forward to reading what you have to say tomorrow!
I really have no plans to use ProTools, but I couldn’t pay for the thing without giving it a try or two. I think it might make a good editor for individual tracks, since my copy of Cool2K can’t work with the ASIO drivers…
'til next time;
Tony:(
No worries.
I love audio editing in PT, it’s very good. It’s probably it’s strong suit. Of course, I learned on PT so everything else has been my second language as far as that goes.
I think for the small $ you paid for the 001, you will end up happy!
Will update you later on!
Cheers,
C
I had a similar problem, but rebooted the computer to get any change in recording settings to take hold (always received an error message). I should try the “cancel” method.
PEACE
Sorry Tony, I didn’t get a chance to try and replicate your issues last night. Have you had any luck getting it to work?
Hi Clark; no huhu; the workaround is still working; and I do not have any paid projects happening at the moment, so I have time to keep fiddling on it. Overall, nTrack seems to like the DIGI, and the AD/DA converters are definitely a step up from the Delta44, which was not a bad unit at all… And the pre-amps in the thing are amazing, better sounding than any of my other pres. I keep an SM58 mounted on my desk, and the sound of my voice through the DIGI is so much more real than through my ART (tubeMP) or even my Presonus (BlueTube) - though not too much better than the pres in my Spirit Folio mixer, which are very sweet sounding.
Anyhow, I will look forward to reading from you later!
'til then;
