Version 5 build 2313/Version 4

Somethings amiss

Ok, been pulling my hair out over asio recording in v5.
Wave looks normal, until playback, pure distortion. Wave file in other apps is solid block of noise.
Backed up all files, did complete re-install of puter, factory settings. Removed bloated proggies, re-installed E-Mu card, no problems. Installed v4 of n and registered codes, ok, installed v5 and registered codes. I can open 4 or 5 on the machine in all programs. v4 settings same as v5, v4 records just fine in asio, 24bt 48k. v5 same settings nothing different, same ol thing, pure digital distortion.

Something in v5 asio is amiss!

Anyone else verify this?

Yaz the invisible!

By any chance did you use the wrong codes for version 5? You may have codes for 16 bit and 24 bit/ Check the registration and see . . just a thought.

Yaz - I thought this problem rang a bell from a ways back…Here’s the thread.

You had even emailed Flavio on it.

Yes I did Poppa and Flavio sent me a quote from the n manual, didn’t change anything, I went thru every setting (buffering) on asio, no change, sent him my v5 codes and he said they looked right. There’s nuttin running on the Vista machine other than Music apps. asio4all didn’t work for it either.

Just at a loss with v5.

Yaz

I assume you have adjusted the ASIO buffers?

Yeppers, went from 2ms to 100ms and all settings in between. v4 can go down to 2ms and records just fine.

According to Flavio’s blog there are no more 16 and 24 bt proggies, posted last year sometime.

Maybe something in the .sng file pertaining to the sampling rate is getting corrupted? I’ve been getting this error as well. I cannot record at 48000 or any other setting besides 44100 within the affected project once this condition starts happening. I can start a new project and record at 48000 or open an existing project that has not yet been affected and it will also record fine at 48000.

I export the project as an .edl, load in Reaper and recording works fine.
I load the same .edl in nTrack and recording works fine.
I start a new project in nTrack and recording works fine.

OR

I can set my Sampling Rate to 44.1 for the new tracks and they record as expected. I can do this using the present option for 44100 or the Custom option both work fine, but only at 44100.

SO… seems I’m stuck with 44100 until this gets properly identified and corrected.

Not the song file here, just can’t record anything 24bt asio.

Bummer :disagree:

I presume you have checked the 24 bit mode under “Select audio format”, i.e “4 bytes left justified”, “3 bytes packed” or “4 bytes right justified”? Wrong setting there would give what you described - at least on my computer…

I noticed that the only thing that didn’t sound distorted was my breath between phrases. So I tried whispering and it came through clearly. Now I’m thinking that the distorted sound at normal volume is somehow caused by digital clipping…

The gain on my Fast Track Ultra USB is at the usual level and the meter in nTrack shows that I’m around -15db so well within the threshold…

Very soft sound is recorded as expected, while even conversation voice is clipping???

Shayne

Are you by any chance trying to record 24 bit files in mono? n-Track v. 5.x cannot do this with an Emu card under ASIO (I haven’t tried any other configs). All you get is annoying noise - just as you describe.

:disagree: I have given up completely on n-Track because of this bug.

I now use Cubase Studio 4.1.3, which I got at a bargain, and which works flawlessly.

regards, Nils

I have tried every config there is for asio, mono, stereo, changed all settings 1 at a time and tried. Spent over 2 hours trying to get it to record in 24bt asio. Version 5 will not do it here. Prior builds of 5 was ok. 2313 will not do it.

16 bt records just fine, Version 4 records just fine in 16 or 24 bt.

Bummer :disagree:

Yaz,

sorry for getting your thread off track. After doing some searching in this forum I see that my problem is well documented and I found a work-around that I can live with for now… record in stereo to one track, use the Split Track feature to create two mono tracks and then delete the one I don’t want. This get’s rid of the harsh clipping noise for me.

Not smooth, but workable. Sorry I couldn’t help with your issue.

Shayne

No problem Shayne, glad you’ve got yours working. I’ve give up on asio and 24bt.

Hey Shayne, I also have this exact problem. I can not record with asio at all. I have vista and I dont know if that has anything to do with it. I have been using wdm and it works fine. I sure wish someone had the salution.
