Okay…So I downloaded version 5 today…I hadn’t planned on upgrading but I bought some new plug ins and version 3.3 had problems compensating for the latency (my automation would be delayed by precisely the plugin in latency)…So I bit the bullet…
Version 5 seems to correct the latency problem and so far runs very well…but man does it eat the cpu! I run the same song on the same pc (3.0 gig pentium4, Windows XP tweaked for audio) with version 3.3…32% usage…V 5 60%…same plugs, same song…any thoughts?..any tips to get it to run more efficiently?
Cheers,
Ray
where you dont need them turn off as many PLAYBACK and or INPUT METERS as you can - each meter takes up a lot of CPU power to draw - do not have the N track compressor or EQ panel open - if you use them set and close -

Displaying the Freq spectrum in the EQ is especially a CPU pig. Like Doc said, set it and close it. You can change the FFT window size for the freq display and save a few CPU cycles but really, you don’t need it open all the time. Set it with your ears and close it.

Something else you can do is freeze the tracks with plugins that you don’t intend on manipulating much or on tracks that you will work with later. That will save a lot of cpu as well.
