Its good to see so many ideas. I hope Flavio is taking notes from this thread. Everyone has something to contribute.
Maybe we could help Flavio a bit by summarizing all these requests into one long list.

Feature request:
Record and Playback WavPack audio file format.
It’s great for laptop users and people recording to flash media and such. WavPack also can provide full fidelity with 30 to 70% smaller file sizes.
Thanks,
D
PS That “other” DAW I use can utilize the following;
# Direct multi-track recording to all supported formats, including WAV/W64/BWF, MIDI, WavPack, FLAC, Monkey’s Audio (APE) and OGG
With an mp3 codec installed (Lame or other) you can record directly to mp3 (yuck) if you want. Another neato thing is you can set the format for any track independently. Track 1 can be OGG, Track 2 WAV, Track 3 FLAC etc… I can’t really see ever doing that but whatever…
I’d like to have as stabile as possible N-track. Maybe a stripped down version would be fun too to have, something old school.
Furthermore I could use a functioning solo-button in aux channels. Problem described here.
Hi n-Track Users:
Recently, I have been Editing-and-Remixing some material that I used n-Track v5 b2313 for way back in version v2
v3
and
v4… I have no issues bringing those tracks forward to v5…
Those tracks stream and play as well in v5 as they did in the original versions-and-builds back then…
However, I’ve come to realize that over all the builds of n-Track I’ve used over the years that there is one common “THREAD” in all those versions and builds that remain unchanged when Editing-and-Streaming files on the timeline(s) from build-to-build over the years…
Lets say…
for example…
Calling up an .sng file that has
say 10 tracks …
Lets say there is a Tom Track that needs some editing, for some reason…
(A Tom Hit that’s too early or too late)…
and lets say the E.Q. needs some attention and the level is in need of a change…
and/or any number of other adjustments…
After the track(s) has been given their due attention they need to be re-rendered and placed into the folder where all the other tracks for that project are stored…
NOW…
the .sng file is in need of updating/renaming OR over-written
or however the update is addressed…
I usually remove the OLD Track from the .sng file and update the the .sng file with the re-written/re-rendered track(s) with the edited ones…
Here’s the one issue that has remained consistent over the years with n-Track and I stand corrected…
with any other Editor that I’ve worked with on my setups, here…
The OLD Track is removed from the timeline…
Lets say the track was Track FOUR… on the timeline…
Now, the re-rendered track is imported unto the timeline…
It Always Imports To The Timeline As The Last Track…
I’d Like To See The Re-Imported Track Be Inserted Back To The Timeline As the The Position Of The Original Track…
Lets Say, Track FOUR…
If one was using an Editor that handled Broadcast Wave Files there would be No Issue, in that regard…
The track(s) are written with SyS Code that places the files in order of the original placement of the track to the timeline…
IN Fact the .sng file should be in that order no-matter what DAW the .sng file is imported into…
It’s important because the order of the track placement stays the same because of A/D and D/A converters and analogue signal chains according to the placement of the tracks on the timeline on the digital editor…
Bill…
p.s.
I hope Flavio monitors this topic…
AS… I think this is important enough, at least to me…
to be considered and “Coded” into v6 and later builds…
of n-Track…
Lets say there is a Tom Track that needs some editing, for some reason.. (A Tom Hit that's too early or too late).. and lets say the E.Q. needs some attention and the level is in need of a change.. and/or any number of other adjustments..
What you want Bill is something I have already requested; TAKE MANAGEMENT. In 'R' (OK so SPANK me for mentioning it

D - blah... sue me...

Hi Diogenes:
Thanks for the reply on this thread.
It hadn’t occurred to me to go to the start of this topic and re-read the features that we’re wanting on and looking for with v6…
There’s 65 replies to the list of our want, need, must have, can’t do without…
I can hear Flavio way over here…
It’s not a funny matter to work on putting Code Strings together…
The mental energy required to make the feature work…
AND…
then to place it in the right line and How far back to insert the line so it doesn’t impact on some other feature…
I am only assuming that this is how “Code” is written…
Bill…
Here are my requests (I’m still using v4, so I don’t know if these are in 5 already):
1. Ability to display both time and beats:bars in the time window
2. Grid-snap dragging of midi files in the time window
3. Ability to switch between alternate takes of the same track in a single track line in the timeline window.
4. When converting to .mp3 and the file is a different bit depth or frequency rate, allow for automatic conversion to proper wav format and then convert to mp3.
5. Ability to paste a midi phrase directly to a specified bar instead of always to the beginning.
6. Show bars and time in the piano roll window.
I know that is kind of a laundry list, but those are things that I’ve wanted to see (are any of them in v5?).
- Nope. Not yet, maybe V6?
2. Grid Snapping works fine in V5 unless I misunderstand you…
3. TAKE MANAGEMENT! Nope not yet… maybe V6? (PLEASE???)
4. I use another proggie for mp3 conversion so I can’t really address this one… ?
5. Paste inserts at the edit cursor does it not?
6. Not in V5. I’d LOVE to see both time and M:B:T available (optionally) on the timeline for BOTH the main arrange window AND the Piano roll voew. Maybe V6?

Hi n-Track Users:
I have this request that I think would be something I could use here-and-around my set-up…
I eluded to the feature on another thread…
Here’s the issue…
If I, for some reason… After I press the Recodr Button
change my mind and want to abort the Take, there is no way to stop/abort the record initiation process…
The “READY” screen appears…
Beyond that point-in-the-process there is no way to change that command from happening…
If you close the box the transport rolls…
I believe there should be a “CANCEL” or “OVER RIDE” option for that command…
I would save from having to open the Folder/File storage area on the hard drive where the tracks are stored to delete-and-or-maintain aborted “TAKES”…
Even if you decided to abort the TAKE because of some technical or musician Flub-up even at the end of the TAKE the decision is made to abort the recording a POP-UP screen would appear to give the option to delete the file…
Then you should have another choice to save the aborted file is case you choose/decide to “Cross-Fade” or EDIT some portion of the aborted take…
It could be a user option on a Drop-down menu, to have it’s use or not…
I guess this should fall under the list of “Features”…
Bill…
Here’s another… inspired from another thread.
Speaking of looping… one thing I’d love to see in V6 and is also STILL missing from ‘R’ is a “Region Playlist”. You set up loop-able regions such as;
1=Intro
2=Verse
3=Chorus
4=Guitar wankfest
5=Bridge
6=Outro
Now while experimenting with your song structure, your playlist might be;
1-2-2-3-2-3-5-4-3-3-6 and the playback would chug along accordingly. Hmmm… too much huh? Okay. Delete one verse (2) after the intro and one chorus (3) after the Guitar wankfest.
I want! I want! I can get it in Cubendo but I ain’t about to give the Steinbooger Syndicate (SPA-TOOEY!) 600 Denarius…
However, there are 21 other items from this thread yet to addressed so just add it to the list and make it 22.
D - yeah… I’m keeping score… sue me.
What if you wanted to do the guitar wankfest a couple of times, is that too much? If so, Ted Nugent should have been shot long ago.

Ted shoots BACK!!

The Great White Buffalo baby! Ted still rocks hard man...
I'll grab that ReNoise demo Doc. Thanks for the tip. A playlist feature would be fabulous within n-Track though. I imagine getting the pre-buffering and gozinzta's and gozoutta's working for glitch free playback would be somewhat tricky... but other DAW's have managed to do it.
Incredibly useful IMO. Instead of dragging regions all over the place to re-order a song when composing, just change the playlist order. Incredibly useful...

Hey... and only ~80 "Bushy dollars" as Tom would say. I'm gonna goober around with the demo a bit. This looks interesting...
Thanks Doc.

TECHNICALLY promoting another APP has (as D knows) been frowned on here, but RENOISE is not a DAW it is a tracker, a totally different way of producing songs - it is sample based and you program PATTERNS around the samples used - these PATTERNS are just building blocks - blocks whose play order can be changed at will -
iF YOU ARE NOT A PROGRAMMER, yes you have to PROGRAM RENOISE then you can still use the pattern technique in a DAW, its just harder to accomplish but can be done -
1… create a pattern - make a PORTION of your song, FIXIT (mixdown - create another portion - FIXIT - so on so forth -
thinking in patterns instead of the whole song places a lot of strain on the creative process in a DAW without the musical convulations you have available in a tracker - in other words the DAW is a crippled application when it comes to actual BEAT CREATION, but it can be done -
when you have created your patterns and fixed then to wave files, it is a simple matter to arrange them as ou want in the timeline -
A FEATURE from another DAW ENERGY XT2 would be favourite here, it is the ability to program MUTES into a track - you create a MUTE point, sound goes off, click later in track sound comes on again - no messing with faders - you could have 3 or more patterns and drop them in and out this way -
RENOISE is very easy to program if you vave a MIDI kbd, it autamation possabilits are TRULY AWSOME, and then some -

I grabbed the demo and the manual. I’ll have a look at it as time permits.
I agree. ReNoise is not a DAW in the technical sense. I tend to look at all my software “toys” as tools. Some tools are better suited for certain things. Sometimes I might gently nudge a thing I like about one app towards other users in the hopes it might find it’s way into more apps. Progress, progress! Without a-holes like me saying "Hey this is better, try this! Maybe we can get developer here to add this to app name here, nothing would progress. Well, it would I suppose… it’d just be slower. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. (Or gets crushed in the junkyard in preference of a new wheel…)
I looked at a tracker a looonng time ago but I forget what it was called? It was “donation-ware” and as buggy as my mom’s flower beds…
D
Bump-a-roonski…
I’ll post a comprehensive list tomorrow… (it’s on my laptop at the salt mine) but the biggies are…
1) Take management
2) More ROUTING features i.e. Auxes/Groups to hardware outs with more flexibility for outboard monitoring mixes
3) Better PDC in ALL cases. Renders still give varying, different file lengths. Should be SAMPLE ACCURATE. The other guys do it…
4) Per item FX. If you really feel froggy… per item envelopes would be cool as well…
For a better n-Track…
D
BUMP…
BUMP....
Again....
My vote for door #2 - More Routing features…
Thanks D.
