Video on motherboard still a no-no?

Is it still inadvisable to use motherboard on-board video instead of a dedicated video card in a DAW, even with the new faster and more powerful multi-threading, or dual or quad core CPU’s? Thanks.

I wouldn’t say it was a “no-no”… I would not recommend it if at all possible. The main issue is the onboard GPU eats main system RAM. You may find you NEED that RAM when tackling projects in your DAW. What I do on my laptop which uses integrated graphics chip and shares system RAM, is set the graphics adapter memory usage to the lowest setting. On mine I think it’s 32MB. I don’t need super high-res, multi-gazillion colors anyway. You usually find this setting in the BIOS options. Look for a “Setup” key when your system boots.
