Video with Audio

Mixing the two…

I don’t know if this is even possible, but its worth a shot.I have a DVD with home video of our band performing. I also have a CD with the same audio as what is on the DVD but with better quality. The DVD is VOB format, the CD is your standard CD ( I can rip and convert to most any audio format.)

Does anybody know how I can put the two together to make one video?

Since I am really a musical type and not a video or picture person, I only have windows movie maker.

S’pose I could go on and on, but what I need is a little guidance.

Thanks,

Go to www.videohelp.com. This site has loads of information on ripping from DVDs and converting to other formats.

You need a video editing program.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio with DVD Architect. It’s about $90 at BestBuy, Amazon, etc.
Great program, well worth the money.

If you’re looking for something on the cheap, there are shareware video editors out there. Go to Google…

Whilst we’re on the subject, and sorry to but in, I’ve been looking for (simple) video editing and dvd burning software. There doesn’t seem to be much about that’s any good and also free, so I’ve been thinking about buying Roxio Media Creator (around £59). Anyone have any opinions about this software or can suggest an alternative?

I don’t want very hi-tech stuff, just to be able to trim the ends of video clips and also have some reasonable control over title screen editing etc (without being restricted to using the garish templates you often get supplied with software), and then to burn to dvd.

Thanks

JW

I’ve only tried the demo, but Multiquence (from the makers of Goldwave) is a simple video + audio editor. It would allow you to marry up the video with the CD audio into a new movie file.

Sorry, I don’t have any experience with burning video, correct formats, etc.

My advice would be to go to the person who made the DVD if you get the files they used to make the dvd you could use the windows movie maker to put something together. Windows movie maker could import off the digital tape if you can get the cam and the orignal tapes. Adobe Premier Elements can import off a DVD thats about $100.

You sure can if you have the right software. I have Vegas Movie Studio Platinum & it’s easy to do with that. This is how I did my video of my band, i.e., we recorded the audio with nTrack on my DAW, and the video on a camcorder. I just swapped out the camcoder audio with my nTrack audio (once it was mixed to a .wav file).

The VOB file is just an .mpg file so all you need to do is rename it to use it in a program.

IT is true that a VOB file is an mpg file, but the audio can be encrypted in several different ways. It can be MPEG, PCM, Dolby 2ch or 5.1. Not many programs will import a Dolby or MPEG audio channel from the VOB file.

You can try changing the extension to see if it works, but if you get no audio, this is probably why.

Thanx all for the responses…

squidly: I can’t get the original, just the DVD that was mailed to me.

Mr. Soul: I am trying to get by without much of an investment. You are the second to suggest the Sony Vegas software (thanx Tim) which might be the way to go. I also looked at the Goldwave product (archimedes). i do have ‘Windows DVD Creator’ which will open the VOB file from the DVD, but without sound like daveT says.

So, what I have in my current project is video with no sound from the DVD, and sound with no video from the CD.
Matching these up is going to be a real chore. Especially because the video is at least half an hour long with several songs on it. I need to cut it into individual songs before I can do anything. My PC can’t deal with that much goin on at the same time. I thought this might be a simple thing…guess I have a real project on my hands…might have to play my guitar for a while and think about this… ??? :;):

You could try VirtualDub

I’m thinking of buying Sony Vegas - the reviews are good.

Vegas is very good video editing software. Some people find the learning curve a little steep, but once you learn, it is very powerful.

There are two flavors of Vegas. There is Vegas Movie Studio which is their low end video editor. This runs around $100 US but can be found on sale quite often.

Then there is Sony Vegas which is their full blown version. Right now I think you can buy it from B &H Photovideo for around $150 because they are getting ready to come out with a new version. The current version is 6. Normally it sells for around $400 to $600 depending upon whether you get the DVD Architect program.
