Vocal remover recommendations?

Software/plug-in advice

Greetings all! I’m wondering if any of you have any recommendations for good vocal removing plug-ins or software. I’ve tried AnalogX’s plugin, which works okay. But it’s not terribly great. I know nothing’s perfect, and I’m probably looking for an easy-way-out that doesn’t exist, but I thought I’d ask. Thanks for your thoughts.

Pretty much. Taking vocals out of a mix is like taking too much salt out of a meat loaf. Once it is in there, you have job getting it out and it will most likely be worse once you are done trying. At least with meat loaf you can add more meat or corn flakes.

Most Voice removers work the same way. Since the majority of the time the lead voice is panned dead center, voice removers invert the phase on one channel so that the voice is canceled out. Sometimes this affects other instruments, but that is the tradeoff.

If the software you are using now is not doing it, chances are the voice is not panned center or has other effects that are bleeding left or right. Probably no other software will work any better.

Duct tape over the lips works pretty good.

They are usually made with cover bands copying the original.

Yes, that's what I thought. Figured I'd check just to make sure. Just trying to have a little fun with a song (no, not make karaoke). Thanks.

Irishbk,
Sometimes I’ll download a midi file of a song I want to sing (it’s amazing the obscure songs you can find) and delete the instrument that’s playing the vocal track. Then I adjust the midi file to my liking (change instruments, tempo, put it in MY SINGING KEY) and have N-track turn the result into a wave file which I then add my own vocal track to. I actually get some good “non-midi sounding” results when using soundfonts with just an Audigy 2 (platinum EX) soundboard. Have suprised/fooled a lot of my musical friends!
