After drawing a volume envelope for a track I sometimes find that the overall level of the track is too high or low. I like the envelope shape itself, but I just want to move the whole thing up or down. Make sense?
If I simply raise or lower the fader for that track before running the playback, does that move the entire envelope up and down, while maintaining the general level changes as the track progresses?

Yep. (Well close enough anyway). Watch out for clipping if the level goes way up.
Yes, that’s exactly what it does, as long as there’s no clipping in the master output.
