Has anyone had the problem of NTrack listing each plugin(vst) twice in the plugin list ?
I cleared the cache and rescanned but the list still gets 2 entries for each plugin dll that is in the plugin folder.
Those are the only dlls on the system, no doubles.
NT build Version = 1779

I have seen this with 3.3 (just last night) after I uninstalled 4.xx and reinstalled 3.3, but in my case, I had duplicate copies of the plugins, with one set in the 3.3 VST folder and the others in the 4.xx VST folder. When 3.3 scanned for plugins, it came up with duplicates. I reinstalled 1779, but I didn’t think to check for duplicates since I was looking at a different issue. I don’t know why it would do this is you haven’t got duplicate DLLs on the system somewhere, but I haven’t really looked at the problem. If you don’t get this figured out, I’ll look at it tonight when I get home and post a fix if I find one.
Tony
Yep I double checked. I deleted the VST scan log and dat files and rescanned again and still get 2 entries for each dll installed.
Also searched the system and only find one dll for each on the HD.
Flavio ??!?
Tnx,
Curt
Do you actually have two copies of the VSTs in the path? V4 is finding all the VSTs in my old V3.3 installation’s VST folder in addition to the VST folder in the V4 installation. I don’t have duplicates in the there, but if I did I could see that both might show up. (I’ll try this later when I get home)
Well, I tried a few things, but I couldn’t get N-track to duplicate the entries without there being duplicate plugin DLLs on the system. 4.04 (I’ve got build 1778) was showing duplicates, but only the ones with duplicate DLLs in my old 3.3 VST folder.
There’s a registry key HKLM/Software/VST which pointed to my 3.3 VST folder, so that’s why N-track was searching there for VSTs even though 3.3 was uninstalled. Once I renamed either the folder or the path in the registry key, 4.04 would not show duplicates.
Curt, does your vst scan log show any VST folders other than your 4.04 VST folder, i.e., the one listed in File->Settings->Preferences->Paths->VST plug-ins folder path?
Tony
Duplicate deleted
Nope there is only the one Directory called out in my registry (HKLM/…/VST\C:\Program Files\FASoft
-Track Studio 4\Vstplugins.
It also double lists the VSTi’s also.
Note that whichever one I select does work. Just kind of weird.
I’ll keep looking…as I say it doesn’t affect my work so I’m cool there.
Tnx,
Curt
Curt, does the VST scan log file also show only one directory being scanned? I noticed my old 3.3 directory in there after 4.04 was done scanning and was giving me duplicates.
Also, I wonder if the duplicates will still show if you just either remove or rename the HKLM…\VST registry key temporarily (as I did)? Not trying to fix it this way, just trying to figure out what’s causing it. If it turns out to be a bug, this would be useful info for a bug report…
Tony
Sorry it took so long to get back on this.
The scan log shows only one entry for each vst or vsti that I have.
There is only one each of my plugins installed. (I did have to double check)
One thing I did notice is that I also run Tracktion and in that app there is only one entry for each plugin (Normal)
And when it is searching for vsts it does run the loop ->twice<-.
It is weird.
Curt
and this is with the new build. 1785

Yeah, I kinda figured that. If you're still tinkering with this and feel comfortable editing the registry, could you try either temporarily removing that HKLM/Software/VST key or changing it so that it points to an invalid directory? No obligation, though--only a suggestion if you're still looking at this...
Tony
Just tried that and same thing. Vsts in new directory and new directory entered in registry. Only one path in the registry.
I did find that there ARE double entries in the Scan.log file.
Erased dat and log files and rescanned …same thing.
Then…I moved the vstplugins directory completely out of the NTrack directory structure and renamed it. Then created a new empty “Vstplugins” directory under NTrack. I put 1 plugin dll there. Erased the scan log and dat files and restarted NTrack. It “reinstalled” and created the NTrack graphicEQ, Multiband compressor, and tempo delay in the “new” directory. And scanned those and the one dll I put in there… TWICE.
Weirdness Weirdness
Tnx,
Curt
Here is the scan log with only 4 plugins in the directory (the classic Auto Filter and the 3 NT plugs):

Have you reset your prefs yet and tried? (I think all you tried would be as good as this, but you never know)
Delete vstdat.dat and rescan. This will get recreated at the next scan.
One major thing to try is to completely uninstall n-Tracks, searched the registry for all instances of “ntrack” and “fasoft” cand nuked them, then delete eveything in the ntracks install folder and the folder itself (moving whatever that’s in there that you need in some other folder of course), then reinstalled and reregistering n-Tracks. This would force new copies of all the files to the machine just in case one was funky.
The scan file is showing two instances as if there are more than one, maybe. The Delay is different on them. I don’t know what that means, but ti could be relevant.
Also, the full path has an upper caps C in one scan and a lowwer caps c in another scan. That probably means nothing, but it is a difference.
One last difference is that the Sub-path is shown different. That is why I’m suggesting reseting the prefs. n-Tracks might be searching the default path (blank sub-path) the the actual sub-path with happens to be the same as the default. My own scan log shows both, but there aren’t two instances in mine so this is probably nothing either. I don’t what Sub-path is used for.

Ok, Curt, that tells the story – I think I found the problem. I see the paths are the same in both scans through the VST directory except that the drive letter “C” is lowercase in the first scan and uppercase in the second. (EDIT: Umm…as phoo already pointed out! ) I reproduced the problem you were seeing by making the drive in the registry’s VST path uppercase while changing the VST path in the N-track settings to lowercase. All plugins were listed twice after this.
So to make the double-listing go away, you should only have to make the case of the drive letter match in both paths. Did you want to report the bug, or should I?
*EDIT: Ok, I submitted it today…07 MAR 2005 *

1788 fixed the problem. One dll := one vst listing. Cool.
