Diet
Hey, this “Lifestyle Consideration Moment” is brought to you by my mom, who just forwarded me this, and I thought it was pretty interesting:
WATER OR COKE?
WATER
1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so
weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.
3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s
metabolism as much as 3%.
4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger
pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a
University of Washington study.
5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses
of water a day could significantly ease back joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.
7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy
short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and
difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a
printed page.
8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the
risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less
likely to develop bladder cancer.
And now for the properties of COKE:
1 In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol
carries two gallons of coke in the truck to remove
blood from the highway after a car accident.
2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and
it will be gone in two days
3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into
the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one
hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke
removes stains from vitreous China.
4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub
the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap
aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked
in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and
bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished,
remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke
into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help
loosen grease stains.
9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.
For Your Info:
1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days.
Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones
and is a major contributor to the rising increase in
osteoporosis.
2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the
commercial truck must use the Hazardous material
place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.
3. The distributors of coke have been using it to
clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass
of water?
Have A ____ And A Smile…!
And Mythbusters tested a lot of that too.

They used steel wool and coke and found it worked really well for cleaning chrome bumpers…
The tooth, steak, and coin tests were busted, iirc.

Dunno about that, but:

I’ve heard is fantastic. Don’t use diet coke, it won’t work… Basically, the easy way is to put some chicken pieces (drumsticks) in a casserole dish, pour in a cup of coke, cover and bake.

Well I always choose water over the “Black Death” as I call it.
But spring water, none of that chemical tap stuff.
I’ve read studies where the research stated soda’s carbination decreases the abiltiy for our bones to absorb calcium, leading to weak bones and other resulting diseases associated with them.
Not to mention the amount of sugar in “Black death” or any other color death for that matter.
I can only imagine the amount of fecal matter lining the colons and intestines of constant soda drinkers, it’s a sickening thought.
Not to mention the effects a daily overdoes of sugar has on the brain, and nervious system, for someone who is ingesting a corbinated form of sugar water all day, every day, for years at a time…
Now people think they are avoiding the dangers of soda by choising diet versions…
Which is only opening themselves up to a further onlsaught of chemical poinsoning.
Sacrin, Splenda, unatural sweeteners like these: always start out with FDA approval…but in the later years…after many human guinnie pigs…will most likely be found to be a slow poisoning.
Not to mention the amount of Floride in soda. Since most of these companies are using local tap water to produce it rather than spend money on fresh water.
And then there’s always the staining of the teeth, but that’s a superphycial wound, hardly life threatening.
So yes, the water will be just fine, thanks.
keep shinin’

Eyup!
As always, every story has two sides.
Phosphorus is one of the elements essential for plant growth. Organic phosphates are the compounds which provide the energy for most of the chemical reactions that occur in living cells.
In other words, without this heinous “artificial” chemical, we are all dead.
I still prefer water to coke, especially if it also contains hops and barley

Hear, hear

Coke in different parts of the world always tastes different, because of the local water.
Anyway it appears my mom’s been busted! And me for posting it… Good to have an informative and lively dialogue, though. Cool.
Oh that Coke, you mean Coca Cola, I wuz thinking the white coke. Nose candy or water.

Wouldn't that be "Nose Candy and water??"

In any case, jeremy’s right about one thing for certain - sugar. We just shouldn’t take in that amount of sugar. No controversy there!
Well my wife cut out soft drinks and tea, drinking only one cup of coffee in the morning and LOTS of water the rest of the day. She’s lost about 20 pounds and is looking FINE!
There may be something to this ‘water thang’…

I cut out beer, and now my wife, and everything else, looks terrible.

I never liked Coke…always preferred Pepsi! Some of us can handle our sugar but I agree that Jeremy should stay away from it otherwise his posts would be twice as long and come at us twice as fast!

Ah yes, good to see that my legacy lives on.
Rumors of my death have been greatly exagerated.
No pictures please, my skin shafens in the light.
I am suprised in my rant, I didn’t even touch on the adverse effects of caffen on the body… Oh well there’s always another day…hopefully far, far, in the future for your sakes heh?

keep shinin’ and happy trackin’ people,
Until next time, keep looking up…(insert eary music here)

Well let’s just say the over indulgence of any substance isn’t good. Be it sugar or whatever. Moderation and eating with good sense. Soft drinks are ok but not if you drink them constantly. After being on a save my life going to the south beach diet ‘thang’, my eating and drinking habits have changed for the better. Lost 40 pounds and feel the best physically I have in decades. Still not sure about the mental state, but then again that part of me will never be right so to speak.
Still smoking cigs tho, the last of my vices (that are now habits?), but am smoking alot less of those too. Age tells us to slow down in all things, even sex! Not saying less sex, just slowwwwwweeeeeerrrrrrr!

I posted this on Bassnutz.com also, with the remark that we’re going to do the nail test for my kids. Might as well try and steer them from an unnecessary incurrence of Diabetes!

You tell em Yaz, enjoy every moment!

If you must drink soda then please drink the sugar variety. Aspartame is suspected of being a cause of many health problems. As mentioned above, the jury is out on it right now, things like this take decades to clarify, especially when industry actively hinders the research. Remember asbestos. Sugar-loaded soda is awful too, but I’d rather get diabetes than brain cancer.
Personally, my rule is to avoid foods which have artificially created ingredients. Our bodies have not evolved to cope with these new chemicals in our diet, especially in repeated daily quantities. Actually refined sugar falls into this category also.
As I said, the jury is out on aspartame and all the other unpronouncable ingedients you commonly see on food packaging. If the ingredient is a number or chemical name then it’s probably not something human beings were designed to ingest. Maybe aspartame and some of these other modern diet chemicals are individualy not harmful. But look at the prevalence of cancer, diabetes, weight issues, ADD and all the other disorders these days, which predominantly have risen in countries such as US which have adopted these modified diets in recent decades. Something’s not right.
Also, I personally get a headache during the day and feel like crap in the mornings if I dont drink water all day long. Almost everybody I know here in the heartland is on medication for headaches, sleeplessness, stress, cramps, backache, arthritis etc. Without exception, they don’t make a point of drinking water. Our bodies are designed to run on water, so drink up, all day long
