Lots to download
Hi Gents:
I’m sure that most of us are on the Microsoft/Windows Update mail-out list… I’ve been going down the list of up-date files and I see that the Internet Explorer v7 is posted and available for download and installation…
I know there are other browsers to use and many of you may not be fans of, or use Internet Explorer…
Having said that… Of the ones of you using Internet Explorer, as your browser, are any of you planning to install v7 ? Are there any reasons that a person should or should not update their browser? Should I be installing Internet Explorer v7 on this set-up?
There seems to be too many utilities to keep current and updated these days… It’s almost a full-time job to keep your computers current and up-to-date…I have three of them and two boxes are dual-boot…
Bill…
IE 7 breaks stuff… Give it 10 or 12 months then maybe think about installing it.
Hi Bubbagump:
Thanks for your advice. I don’t mind jumping into n-Track builds… But I hate to play with anything to do with the operating system…
I recently downloaded and installed this msn Live/Hotmail and all on this P-111 that has dial-up and all… But It don’t work very well… It’s slow because of the dial-up and modem… So, when I load the hotmail desk now I have to give it the command to use the utility that is for “Slower Machines”… ?? It still takes forever to open… I’d hate to uninstall it and then find I’d have to re-register msn messenger/hotmail and every thing all over again… That would be just the “Pits”…
On another note… At the coffee shop this morning… the conversation was around the virus utility of AVG… The talk is that software is gonna have a BIG Change early in January… Have you heard anything like that in your Camps?
Bill…
I noticed that MicroSoft has posted Windows Media Player 11… My belief is that it’s out of bata… When I checked the file it doesn’t look very big, (in file size)…
Is that an application that should be installed? If I remember, the v11 bata was a quite a large file… I don’t have the v11 (bata) installed… Is that an application that we should steer clear of, as well? Does anyone know what improvements v11 addresses?
Bill…
Eyup!
I downloaded IE7 to give it a try, but it doesn’t have anything you can’t get from other, less bloated browsers. There is no pressing reason to get it Bill. Personally, I use Avant Browser, it uses the IE engine but gives a LOT more functionality for a much smaller download.
AVG anti virus is due for a major re-vamp shortly. The latest version is 7.5 and versions earlier than this will no longer be supported. It will still be available free exactly as before and you can download it now. I don’t think that virus updates will work with earlier versions after January.
Windows media player 11 is definitely worth a download. It is rather hefty at 25Meg but worth it in my opinion. The major improvements for me are the library and media tagging.
WMP10 had major problems with my collection, any change in the media info would result in a ten minute freeze whilst the library was updated. No such problem with WMP11 and the advanced tagging function works very well.

Thanks for the replies… I had a major virus attack 2-3 years ago… It got into the studio DAWs and every hard drive I had… It really hurt my set-up here… I promised myself I’d never find myself in that corner again… I have my fingers crossed and toes and all… I’ve been lucky sense it happened… I lost hard drives and .wav files and all the photos and images I had. At that time, there was a poster that was up here quite a bit… He suggested that I get AVG and install it… I haven’t been hit sense.
Yes… Steve… That’s what I’m hearing about that AVG Utility… Just about anyone I come into contact up here is using that virus application… I’m watching anyone I get mail from… I’m looking at anyone that doesn’t have a file attached to his mail if it doesn’t contain an AVG footing, to it…
I’m not quite sure how to approach that Media Player install… I have the bata version… It’s 22-25 meg. in size. I’m thinking I should install the bata version of it and then install the v11 (full) that is ~ 3 meg. in size over the top of the bata…
I’m thinking that the latest version of Media Player is important to n-Track’s behaviour and performance… Well… maybe…??
I’m thinking that installing this stuff a little-at-a-time is better than installing all this stuff in one big install at some later date… and then discovering a bunch of issues…
[EDIT]
Hi XonXoff:
I seem to be running into more-and-more guys that is switching over to mozilla and firefox… The server guy I connect to the internet with has sworn off of MicroSoft… He don’t have much good things to say about Billy G… and his boys… lol… I don’t even think he uses Windows… any version…
Today the coffee shop discussion was around the idea of if It ain’t broke don’t try to fix it… Internet Explorer and Outlook Express… that is…
Bill…
just so you know, its “beta” not “bata”… unless im missing something.

Yep, and just so you know, it's "I'm" not "im" and "it's" not "its" unless I'm missing something.

Hi Bill,
I use IE7 at work - no problems as such yet. Tabbed browsing is cool. Firefox gets used here at home too. (The link I posted is actually a spoof since IE7 just incorporates some of the best features of Firefox).

hey Bill,i had that beta version of hotmail too man and your right, slow as can be,i then switched back with no problem ,they just wanna know why ya thought it sucked an then they give it back the way ya had it b4,
i been using friefox for almost 2 yrs now and its way better then IE ,faster too it seems ,i think you would be happy with it
Hi wozz:
By mistake, I installed msn Hotmail bata… new version… I wrote a reply/response to let the people know what I thought, regarding the update… I didn’t get a reply from them… not that I expected but if I knew how to revert back to the earlier version I think I would… that is, without having to reinstall and re-register and what ever it would take to get back there and all… What I do now is, somewhere along the loading point a screen appears… It gives a choice as to if it’s loading/running slow I can load the slower version… If I catch it in time I open that link. Sometimes I don’t catch it and I’m stuck loading all the images and all … What should take a minute to check the hotmail will take me a half hour or so… Well…
Dial-up has it’s “Draw-backs”… Don’t it…
It’s a good thing I have that to complain … About… Are all my friends On-My-Back?? I don’t know why? At least it keeps the telephone marketing girls from calling me…
I think there’s a song there…
Bill…
if i remembers right the link to get back your ole hotmail was right there on the welcome page (after you sign in)…its there somewhere pretty sure…you dont have to reinstall anything, they just wanna ask ya a few questions is all,
I think I use that link to open my mail but I have not used it to revert back to the previous version… I don’t get much mail from msn and yahoo but I’d hate to loose them altogether for trying some stunt and then not having them to use at all… I got a good knack for scerwing things up…
If I soon don’t get some hi-speed connection around here I’m gonna be left in the shoe-leather smoke…
Bill…
