Decisions, decisions.

impossible musical choice

Hey Guys,
A friend of mine who works for a local radio station asked me to list my 10 all time favourite songs. I replied " easy". Several days later and many revisions later, I came up with these in no particular order:

Ships, by Big Country
Irish Day, by Iona
Comfortably Numb, by Pink Floyd
Wind up, by Jethro Tull
Like a Hurricane, by Neil Young
Fever, by Southside Johnny
Brothers in Arms, by Dire Straits
The River, by Bruce Springsteen
Darling Pretty, by Mark Knopfler
When a Blind man cries, by Deep Purple

Now what do I do with the other dozens on my list. Maybe I could give him 10 a week!! Try, it’s not so easy,
Cheers,
Bruffie

Bruffie, that’s near impossible, thought about this all morning. Just can’t nail down top 10 favs. I could probably do 10 a week for the next ten years. :D

Yep! I already changed my mind since this morning. Should have been top 100 but he only has a 2 hour show :D

BTW, the same show is doing a running vote on the 10 WORST songs of all time. Found it hard to nail it down to 10, but did suggest they just play Mariah Careys Greatest hits :D

Eyup!

Come on, that's easy:

Shutuupa your face
Birdie Song
Agadoo
Anything by the Cheeky Girls
Gazza and Lindisfarne
Anything by Boney M
Seasons in the Sun
Anything by Hurricane Smith
Anything by them that did Barbie Girl
All recorded rap music - rap should be live!

Apologies to all those I missed.

Steve

10 worst songs in my opinion

Dancing Queen - Abba
Macerena/Macaroni - Whoever
I wanna Rock n Roll - Kiss
Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus
Elvira - (?) Not sure bout that one
Shattered - The Stones
Saturday Night - Bay City Rollers ?
Delta Dawn - Tanya Tucker ????
Stayin Alive - Bee Gees
Disco Duck - Rick Dees?
Actually any disco music. And the list could go on for decades…

“comfortably numb” over “wish you were here”?

Heh. Yaz, we must be twin sons of different mothers! Looks like MY list!

Elvira = Oak Ridge Boys good harmony group, LOUSY song selection.

Delta Dawn = Indeed, Tanya Tucker...

Bay City Rollers = UGH! My little sister drove me INSANE with that freakin record. I thought everyday was S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT! for months on end... I shoulda snuck in her room and smashed that thing. It would have been the humane thing to do...

U mean he did 10 songs? What a scary thought!! :D

Ok, you forced me into attempting the 10 worst songs :

Yes sir I can Boogie… Baccarat
Got to get a message to you?.. Bee Gees
To all the girls I’ve loved before… Julio and Willie
D.I.V.O.R.C.E… Tammy Wynette
Dancing Queen… Abba
Lady in Red… Chris De Burgh ( who used to be great!! )
I wish I could fly… Orville ( a stuffed Duck in the UK )
Achy Breaky Heart… Billy Ray Cyrus
Disco Duck… Rick Dees
Honey… Bobby Goldboro ( Should be No 1 )

Ran out of space, there are many others!

Much more interesting would be a list of “Ten songs most played to death by aspiring musicians”. Something like

"Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. (A clear winner.)
“Für Elise” by Ludwig van Beethoven (A clear winner on the classical side.)
“Eruption” by Van Halen
“Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana
"Wild Thing" by the Troggs
"Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" by Jimi Hendrix Experience
Guitar solo from “Cinnamon Girl” by Neil Young :p
“Chan Chan” by Buena Vista Social Club and others (number on favourite of all street musicians in Havana, Cuba)
“Paranoid” by Black Sabbath
"Dust My Broom" by Robert Johnson

(Of course, there are national differences: Americans might like to add some marches by Sousa, us Finns something by Sibelius, Eppu Normaali or J. Karjalainen and so on…)

TG, must be twins for sure. My little sis drove me nuts with “Crazy Horses” by THE OSMOND BROTHERS! After that she bought the Kiss Live lp. ARRGGGGGGG

Mwah, would have to add Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Johnny B. Goode, and Freebird to your list. Or any basic 3 chord rock n roll song.

S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y , fight! Saturday night’s alright for fighting, get a little action in. :p

Mwah! Good point and Stairway' a clear winner. But you have to include 'Smoke on the water'.

If I was Finnish, I would be trying to play 'The Kiss of Judas' by Stratovarius :)

Cheers,
Ian

Ah Bruffie, yes, Smoke on da water. Most over played song in history other than Happy birthday to You, and Inna Gadda Da Vida!

Furthermore Yaz, everyone that walks into a guitar shop plays it wrong! No doubt the old heads in this forum would know that Blackmore played it by plucking 2 strings simultaneously :)

Note: Read, Soul Music by Terry Pratchett. Wonderful parody on all this stuff: Quote from the owner of Blert Wheedowns guitar emporium to his assistant Gibsson,
" If the next person who walks thru that door plays Pathway to Paradise again, slam the door in thier face"

Used to be my signature:

"We’re on a mission from Glod."

I also count in with the band with “One, two, many, lots”.
