Ah, TG, I see you are too young a sprite to understand the connotation.
When I was young (in 19**) washing day was a wonderful thing. Mother would boil a huge copper pan of water and soap flakes and the warmth of the steam and smell of the soap is very evocative for those of us who are d’un certaine ages
The traditional way to cook a Christmas Pudding is to steam it, wrapped in a muslin cloth (the pudding, that is…) I think my Mother used to start cooking it around Easter time
Hi Steve, yeah I guess you are right. I’ve always been able to twist a knob and jump into a hot bath. Spoiled I guess… I suppose my birth in 19** must have come several years AFTER your 19** birth.
Tom, I read it all again and I’ll stick to my guns…

his inability to get the US intelligence community straightened out. (Blind leading blind )
However this thing shakes out it IS going to boil down to BAD intelligence services performance. If they had this information and knew Dub was steering us into war, WHY sit on it? Why not scream it from the mountain tops? Fear of losing their jobs? If it was a choice between shouting it out and possibly save thousands of lives and lose my job OR quietly let a war happen… I know what I would do. The whole thing stinks of people with NO integrity, REAL backbone or TRUE intelligence… not just at the top levels of government either.
Now let us assume that the executive branch KNEW the Quaeda/Iraq connection was a farce. What motive would they have for pushing us into a war? Just to finish the job that George Senior funked in the 90’s?

Tg, you don’t even have to ask the question. You know the answer.
My mother-in-law, rest her, made a cracking paella. Everything she cooked was wonderful. I reckon she could have stewed an old pair of boots and made a tasty meal They don’t make women like that any more, that’s why I married her daughter!

I’m asking anyway…
I’d like you guys to read THIS and tell me what you think.
That’ll answer a lot of your questions. Just think of the meaning of “Pax Americana” and follow the money trail. Look at the folks involved in PNAC. Oh, yeah, the justifications for war were not fabricated…I have a bridge to sell…
Elliott Abrams Gary Bauer William J. Bennett Jeb Bush
Dick Cheney Eliot A. Cohen Midge Decter Paula Dobriansky Steve Forbes
Aaron Friedberg Francis Fukuyama Frank Gaffney Fred C. Ikle
Donald Kagan Zalmay Khalilzad I. Lewis Libby Norman Podhoretz
Dan Quayle Peter W. Rodman Stephen P. Rosen Henry S. Rowen
Donald Rumsfeld Vin Weber George Weigel Paul Wolfowitz
The first one told me what I already know. Clintoon did not pay attention to what was going on in the Middle East. No secret there.
“Pax Americana”… Amercian Peace. Would we better off with say… Pax Iran?
I skimmed the second one before. (I thought it looked familiar.) While it may be a little over the top in places… all it’s saying is we need to act to maintain the status of the US in the global scheme of things. What… we should dismantle the military and roll over and play dead? I don’t think so.
Now answer this question from the other thread where it was conspicuously ignored…

What do you guys think the world would be like if the US just said “Aw to heck with ya’ll!” and closed all our off shore bases, pulled all our CVBG’s home and just sat back and watched?
