Hi,
I watched the tutorial and looked in the manual but didn’t see anything. How do you know which apps should work in the inter-app function? I like N-Track, but the general MIDI sounds are pretty lame. Is it possible to use Garage Band’s sounds in the inter-app feature? If not, then which types of apps would work with this feature?
Thanks
I have several apps on my iphone that are supposed to be inter-app compatibile, but when I click on “add instrument,” as it says to do in the tutorial, the only instrument that shows up is n-Track Synth.
How do I get the others to show up in this list?
Thanks
make sure the inter-app audio icon is enabled in Garage Band.
I know with Alchemy you have to load Alchemy first before it will show up as an inter-app.
then you have to add another audio track to the host DAW in order to hear and record what the plug produces.
but with Ntrack you don’t have to do that, you can just use the ia as an instrument and it will be recorded into wav. during mixdown.
Thanks for the reply.
How do you enable the app in Garage Band? I looked all around the program and couldn’t find anything on that.
With regards to n-Track, I have Alchemy, and it’s not showing up in my “Add Instrument” list.
I’m using the lastest update of n-Track, Garage Band, and iOS.?
Thanks

when you press the button to add a track to Garage Band you can scroll to see the type of track you are wanting to add.
keep swiping past them till you see this one:

Thanks … but that’s what I’ve been trying to say. I don’t see that option in my list. It’s just the same ones I’ve always had.
what iphone do you have?
I think inter-app is supported 4G and further.
other posters feel free to correct me if I am wrong. but it doesn’t work on my 3GS
as far as I know inter-app is a feature of the iOS 7, which does not run on phones before and including 3GS.
Hmmm. I have an iPhone 4 and am running the latest iOS 7 version.
Inter-app audio isn’t supported on the iPhone 4, even if iOS 7 is installed. Inter-app requires iPhone 4S or later.
This is indeed not well documented by Apple, however it was mentioned in their WWDC developer event.
We’ll update the app description and the tutorial videos description with the requirements for inter-app audio.
Also you wouldn’t be able to use Garageband as a synth inside n-Track as I believe Garageband can only act as inter-app host, i.e. it can host inter-app audio apps and synths but can’t be hosted inside other apps.
n-Track Studio 3.1 worked the same way, i.e. it could only host other apps, while version 3.2 and later can be hosted inside other apps, either as an effect, signal generator or instrument.
Flavio.
Your favorite audio app does not support JACK yet? Ask your app vendor to add support for it! Any developer can add JACK support to his app in less than an hour.
between Jack and Audio bus, us lower level users with older phones should be able to connect DAWs together.
then again us lowly users are at the mercy of the esteemed programing board.

Ok thanks. That would explain it! Guess I'll have to check out Jack or Audiobus.

I just checked out Audiobus, and I saw an image that said:
"iPad 2+
iPhone 4s+ required"
(Can't seem to post a picture for some reason)
Have you been able to use it on an iPhone 3?
And I looked at Jack, and all the reviews said that hardly any programs work with it.
Do you have any experience with these?
Thanks!

I could be, IF these programmers would put in the support....I beleive that is what post emphasizes.

Ha! I tried Jack, and apparently it’s not currently working with iOS 7 right now (which is what I have).
I think I’ll give Audiobus a shot. I’ve read of some people having success with it on an iPhone 4 as long as they don’t try to do too much with it. And it’s only $5. Of course, I’ve also read that it’s not liking iOS 7 much either.

correct iOS 7 is a crap shoot for many people involved in audio related apps.
it ain't a field day for the programmers either with all the restrictions on
Inter-Process Communication (IPC).
how inter-app got around that is they are part of the OS, Apple is preventing third party apps like JACK from moving forward with the technology by placing these IPC restrictions, they probably want licensing money to unlock those features in iOS 7.
Yeah … I think I’m going to look into downgrading to iOS 6 again. I haven’t had anything but trouble from 7 so far, and if inter-app is not available on the iPhone 4, there’s no other reason I’d need 7.

that is great advice for anyone wanting to use all the apps already made for pre iOS 7 phones and devices over the last few years.
Apple doesn't seem to care they left all those programmers of many of these useful utilities in the lurch, it helps bolster their monopoly.

Well, I bought Audiobus and started messing around with it tonight. It took a good hour or so of messing with it to learn how it works, but it's promising so far. It's doing exactly what I wanted it to do so far, which is just let me use some good sounds instead of General MIDI. It's worked perfectly with Alchemy and Neo Soul Keys so far.
Let's hope it keeps up!
