What ya thinkin of gettin Tom? A new compressor? lol
TOMS - Just a warning to anyone buying a firewire interface. They do Not work with all PC (Windows) computers. As far as I have been able to determine the standards that are suppose to make verious components work with firewire do not apply to audio. Some chips work, some don’t. Read the Forum of the brand you plan to buy to get info before hand, if you are using a laptop, I’d suggest taking it to the store to try it before you buy. Even a PCMCIA to firewire card (I tried several)did not solve my problems
WEll I wish all the best to Flavio if he can really get N up to snuff.
Thanks for the warning, Bax - I was not aware of that!
are there some advantages to firewire over pc card,i had read that the firewire wasnt as fast,??ture?false?
We probably need to start a thread on this topic. I have a Layla 24 that runs with a PCMCIA card (cardbus). Layla has a “fix” on their site that I had to run to get the cardbus to work correctly with the Layla’s card, but it works great - no stutters and no dropouts and I have never had a problem running and recording tracks - I routinely record 8 tracks through a Presonus Digamax 96 to the Layla 24. Not the case with the Presonus FireStudio. It works with my desktop, but not with the laptop. Echo (Layla ) does not have a forum, but they seem to upgrade their software on a regular basis as new operating systems come out and when they introduce a new product. Presonus customers have been waiting for a new drivers for over a year. If you look at some of the other brands, this is not the case - however, there do seem to be many complaints about the firewire interface for audio - you may have to dig for it. The recording magazines are not saying much about it, but if you have a problem and talk to someone knowledgeable at a store or online seller like Sweetwater, they will tell you that not all the brands work well on PC - particularly, laptops where you are limited by the chipset that you cannot change. My cardbus chipset is “Generic” - Echo’s fix works with their PCMCIA card, but Presonus has no fix. Mac owners are having some problems now that there is a new operating system, but the hardware does not seem to be such an issue.
OK, I’m starting a new thread.
N-track is very alive in my living room this very evening for me. I’m mixing our new album; the third we have made with n-track. Using version 3.3 and consider myself very blessed to have the great creative ingenuity of this software.
I hope n-track can start to work for you.
Well, Happy New Year to everbbody. Haven’t been in this forum for a while, and this thread kind of caught my eye.
I certainly don’t mean to offend anybody, and if N-Track is working for them that’s great, but I gave up on it a year or two ago.
I’ll get blasted for this, but I ended up buying a Mac, a G4, and Protools 6.4
Best move I’ve ever made in my life. The workflow, stability and end product of PT so far outweighed anything I was ever able to produce with N-Track that it just wasn’t even comparable.
I can understand the nostalgic feeling tho. N-Track was my first entry into the digital world of recording and i actually kept it hanging around on an on PC. Mainly to run Jamstix (AI drum program). However, to get it to run even halfway stable I had to downgrade to N ver 3.3
I know a lot of you won’t like to hear this, but I dl’d Reaper a few months back just to use as a platform for Jamstix. Works flawlessly. If I hadn’t already made the investment to switch over to the Mac and PT’s I’d be sorely tempted to try Reaper for all my recording purposes.
N-Track was fun little “hobby” sized DAW. The sad fact of the matter is that while it may not be dead, it probably should be put to rest.
Ah, don’t get me started on weak inductions, gunner. But have a happy new year anyway.
Someomes got some money! lol
New mac, G4, protools,
Well congratulations for rubbing all our noses in it!
Happy New year! lol
keep shinin’
jerm
Ah, don't get me started on weak inductions....
Oh, Puuuhhhllleease!!!
Too clever by half, in color,of course.
Well so far it looks like a dead horse and alot of vapor ware floating around here!!! He could atleast give some updates as t owhat is being done.
shrug, I still use it when I’m inclined to make some noise. I wouldn’t be surprised that a new G4 laptop with protools is better than 60 bucks worth of software on a PC…lol there’s a hell of a gap between the two, don’t you think?
I’ve tried reaper, it’s nice and there are some lessons to be learned in there from ALL daw developers, not just N-track. Shrug.
Is it dead? Obviously not. As long as there’s people still posting on here, it’s alive and kicking.
Is it worth it?
Well, “worth” is a personal value judgement, so only you can answer that. But I think that many here would say that it surely is worth it.
However, a very telling comment is that of Flavio’s:
I haven’t been in the forum for a while and I was surprised to see this thread.
Many others don’t come on here very often either, including myself, but when the main man is part of that group, it makes one wonder.
I’d rather have him working on his product than sifting through a forum looking for real input vs. whining and “How do I do this” stuff…
I DO hope he’s working on it though.
A very valid point Poppa Willis, and I remember the long hiatus between versions 3.3 and 4.
But I’m sure many here would ask if the wait was really worth it in that particular instance. When v4 came out, that was it for me, I switched to Cubase and have never looked back.
But I hope that Flavio does indeed produce a new version of n-track. But if he does, I hope he makes as his prime concern, stability.
I know that many people find n-track perfectly stable on their machines, but for those of us who use multiple machines, and pay the mortgage through our efforts in the music biz, “almost good enough” is not good enough.
And for those who just doodle about at home, n-track is no longer the only player in that particular field.
But n-track still holds a fond place in my heart. V1.2 I think it was, was my first PC sequencer, and it would be great to see it back where it belongs.
Hi Hux:
It’s been a while sense I’ve seen you on this Board…
How have you been?
It’s good to see you post here…
Are you still blogging?
Are you still biking?
and all…
I know you posted photos of your bikes-and-biking…
along with the guy down in South Africa…
I can’t remember his name…
Maybe, he’ll come back and post here…
It’s getting into late summer down there now…
Has Collaboration Central and Scott moved on?
The link wouldn’t open…
anymore…
I ask, cause you’ve been there during DAY ONE…
Bill…
Well so far nothing!!! I feel tha N is pretty much a dead proggie with no future. Unless Flavio does a turn around with the Proggie. Anyway I can say it was my first and worked when I needed it.
yawnnnnnnn…
