Calling all geeks!
A freind and me are trying to set-up n-T for real time collaboration with the net transfer function. No luck so far:-( (morning, Poppa) This freind, who is much more upto speed with such things has mentioned possible Class3IP issues and is busy working on it. Meanwhile, I thought I’d through it to the ‘SuperBrains’ here. Absolutely any clues wood be great. Thanks.
Hi TonyR:
It’s tough to have Network and LAN and Communication Issues… AND…
It’s tough to get music going with all the tech stuff to hurttle…
I am having issues getting my LAN to work…
I discoverd that it might be an IP Address conflict…
with the hardware…
I have no idea how to fix it…
AND… I don’t know how to find what piesce of the hardware it is…
Sorry to get on your thread and RaNt…
I think the guys around here have been doing this stuff…
Bill…
Tony - you’re talking about real time tracking via the net?
Just wanted to clarify for folks. As far as I know, and that ain’t actually that far, net transfers can be done internally but live tracking/collaboration requires external software.
good morning to you too Tone…
Cheers, dude. And the peices start to come together.
Any clues about which software?
Sorry, Poppa. Yes, no and maybe. We can already IM each other wavs but would like it to be more intuative and realtime. We can’t get the net tranfer in n-T to work at all. We’ve even tried using the IP’s for the routers but n-T doesn’t like the numbers.
Check some of Levi’s threads in ‘Anything Else’ section. He went over some of the software and connection requirements. There were some links to real-time colaboration software there. One link had a video showing it. You need a link with around 700k+ BPS
upload. (That’s Bytes not bits - usually cpatial B means bytes and small b means bits.) As you know it’s the ‘upload’ speed that’s the killer. Cus most of the time this is significantly lower than the download speed. Pretty expensive. But I suspect this will change for the better in the near future. Obama is probably on the case.
I have a feeling that phoo may specialize in this type of issue… They work around this stuff all day… I think
OR
maybe MarkA over in the UK…
There ain’t any moss growing under these guy’s sneakers…
Bill…
Not me unfortunatly. I’ve had some dealings, but nothing useful for this kind of thing. Sorry. I still can get FTP to work for phootoons.com on my work machine.
Hi Tony,
You can check out these two;
JAMENOW
ESESSION
eSession is supposed to have a pc version out the first quarter of this yr.
Their live jamming / recording meco software is for mac users at this time.
But they do have a great network stable of artists, producers and engineers.
Jamnow is for pc.
And might be what your looking for.
Keep us posted, luck with all that!
good morning to you too Tone....
Good afternoon to you pcPW, hey just wanted to let you know that 4 time grammy award winner Alvin Speigh baited us with with an insult on the esessions board. here's his quote: "all the songs on here suck's"

If he didn't charge thousands I'd let him unsuck me. lol
I like his bass play'n!
I haven’t even checked that forum in a while… what a nice thing to say though!
The first quarter has come and almost gone and I don’t see a pc version of v/glass as of yet.
Thanks, Levi. May I ask(laugh at will at my ignorence), mid thread, what the ‘net transfer’ feature in n-T is for?
I presume it’s there to transfer tracks over the net. I have never used it because I’m always behind a router and uploading files and having them downloaded by another user just works better for most people I work with. I use my own server and give folks an ftp folder to use with ftp software.
Ok. Thanks, Poppa. ftp?
ftp is File Transfer Protocol
FTP
It’s a simple way to transfer if you have your own server or access to your own website hosting.
I think Flavio has nTrack all set up for this stuff Tony. I remember searching areas of n that I don’t normally look at and found plenty of options for receiving and sending. I just don’t remember off the cuff at the moment.
Virtual Glass is the one I’m waiting on. Where two (or more) do a live session together from different locations with visual as well as audio.
I haven't even checked that forum in a while...
It is actually picking up.
They are taking feature requests for v/g now, and have some input for that. But it's still all mac based.
I'm not used to punching keyboards with grammy winners but Alvin's definitely a great guy. He's just trying to keep it alive over there, and drum up some business. I wonder if what he says is true? Would a mix by one of them make that much of a difference?
Sorry Tony don't mean to steal your thread, I'm into live sessions as much as you are good buddy!
Don’t apologize, Levi. Thanks for being there. It’s all music - it’s all good. That’s funny - I know a couple of dudes who do a live set with Mac’s. I’ve just bought(?) their new album - they’re into Creative Commons. The guy I’m trying to work with has been a music buddy since our early teens but we lost touch for a while, well, about twenty years! I’m getting very excited at the prospect of having a music equivelent of Yahoo IM. So!? The man himself FA, has this going on? D’you think he’d be interested in looking at it as a bug - the net transfer failure I mean???
