Studio

I’ve updated the PHOTO BLOG today…

It’s slow work, but it’s coming along…
One-wire-at-a-time…
I have most of the DJ Hardware positioned and set up where it’s gonna reside…
I’m wiring the patch bay and designing the signal flow-path…
It’s all trial-and-error at this point in time…
Deciding what flow-path is “normal-ed” and what signal path requires patching…
Writing the bay positions down and re-writing them for-the-record…
I hope the patch bay will handle video lines, as well…
We’ll see…

I’m working pretty hard at trying to keep my stick on the ice…
:p
:)

Bill…

I’ve been working on assembling the the Teac MX 8 Audio mixer that will eventually interface with the STA 2000 Hoontech 8-Track A-D /D-A Converter in the P-4 XP DJ Desk…

All that remains to get the setup running is, to wire the Mains and In’s-and-Out’s then connect it to the patch bay and all…

The WebShots Photo Blog has been updated again to show the audio hardware that is mounted in the Teac Mixer Rack…
My plan is, to wire it to/with a 20 ft. or so snake so it can be moved in-and-around a central location on the studio floor… OR…
within arm’s reach of wherever you happen to be, in the studio… I need to design some kind of a movable trolley/dolly, to mount it on, or maybe just a keyboard stand ????

we’ll see…

Contained in the snake will be headphone feeds, I hope… ???
we’ll see… :)
:p

Steady as it goes… :)

Bill…

I had this brainstorm…

I went on a Patch bay update on the DJ Desk…

As I was bringing audio and video lines into their positions, all worked flawlessly…

However, it got late into the afternoon and it got into quitting time…
I didn’t write any notes as to their positions-and-numbers…

All the wires look the same…
What a big mess…
??? ? :)
:p
:disagree:

Bill…

 Sorry about that bill. U the patch bay router man!

Hi Levi:

I wish I could lay claim to to just one small idea of that…
Way back when I first got into jingle sessions in radio and TV studios, I was fascinated by the way these control rooms worked…
I discovered that the guy(s) that built-and-used them, had no labels or marks on the bays…
The guys that were learning the ropes would never be able to patch lines without reading some chart on the control room wall…
I’m beginning to discover that a good working studio has every piece of equipment terminating on a patch bay.
AND…
If you can’t see the wires, it looks so nice…
I used to hear the old boys say…
If it looks good …
ten-chances-to-one it’s gonna work good… In my case, I have my doubts… That’s why I’m having issues with hiding the wires…

Bill…

Hey Bill, It was nice to be able to pop in and look at the new pics and see how things are going with the project. Love the band photo’s.

Has life been good to you latey? I hope so. I’m gonna try to pop in a bit more often to catch up if I can…it’s been too long.

Hugs xx

That Bill bloke is a grafter.
Nice work, geezer - lookin’ good.

Geeze, I wouldn’t know where to begin on building a studio. The closest thing I have is a studio apartment. Thanks for sharing all your trials and tribulations.

Hi Ange and All:

I hope all is going well with You and Rob and you’re working hard at promoting your Concerts-and-Tour…
It requires lots of hard work and energy, day-in-and-day-out…

Thanks for stopping by… I need the positive support from you…
and suggestions from all you studio techs, of options on how to wire a signal flow-path and how to get around not having enough terminal points in two 48-point patch-bays to tie this DJ Desk into the studio signal options…
It’s getting close to be able to move the DJ Desk into position, in the room…
A couple more good days of working on the patch-bays should complete chasing after wires, and all…

I’m close to approaching 60% of completing and tying in the terminal points of the two patch-bays… AND…
This time I have them (the audio/video hardware) named to In’s-and-Outs of the patch-bay terminal points…
I am waiting for an initial order of 1/4" phone plugs, that are on back-order to arrive…
I should have had them late last week…
In my opinion, so far, the patch-bay routing appears to be working some nice… sorry…
So Nice…
:)
:p
and…
I can almost understand it’s operation

It appears as well, I need a dual processor machine with XP installed on it, to handle the A-to-D and D-to-A
conversions of the STA 2000 multi-track portion of this Desk (the 8-Track STA 2000 doesn’t seem to work with Vista, as the Operating System…
The old P-4 machine is just not measuring up, to the task…

For those of you who are unaware, I wasn’t planning on returning to work this coming school term…
I was gonna retire and commit more time to this project…
Well, that has changed…
I need the income to support my habit…
This is gonna severely restrict the available time I have to spend on this Studio Building Project…
Everything, is a trade-off…

I have no idea when all this is gonna end and tracking can begin…

Now, I see a Yamaha, PSR XXXX
I don’t know the Model #, with weighted keys, that I’d love to acquire for the Studio…
It’s at that Buy/Sell Shop…
Who knows what it’s worth…
I don’t… BUT… I think it has my name on it…

I plan to update the photo blog again…
However, it may not show much in the way of any changes that can easily be seen…

One thing…
The step down transformer I used to power all those Mini-Effects on the Tracking Mixer failed…
It wasn’t able to handle the current load to power them up…
I need a transformer that can handle at least 1.5 amps, on the primary leg…

Bill…

I thought I would update the studio photo blog…
I’m in the process of tiding up the DJ Desk’s patch bays and creating floor space before I move on to the Main Desk’s patch bay assembly-and-wiring and all…
In the interim, I’m working on a Vinyl-to-Digital project that was recorded in Montreal back in November’64… One of the LP Titles was "The Amazing Billy G featuring Bill Guest with Piano and Fiddle stuff, of the day…

MmAaNn…
There was no shortage of work back in those days…
AND…
the energy required to keep up with it all…

The reasoning behind keeping this photo blog current is, to have a photo record of the Audio Hardware that is in this collection…

as you all are aware…

Anyway, we are headed to the Buy/Sell Shop for the Fender Deluxe TV Amp…
I’m gonna offer 500.00 loonies for the Amp…

Bill…

Lordy lord Bill - am I ever gonna hear anything recorded and mixed in this room?

Lordy lord Bill - am I ever gonna hear anything recorded and mixed in this room?

Good things come to those who wait Poppa, what be comming out of this studio is gonna be aweeeesome :)

I sure hope SO, ange…
My patience is running thin, as time ravels on…
It seems as, I’m always finding something to technically, work on, every time I go in there…
But, I’d like to hear so tracks come outta that place, as well…

As you are all aware, I’m more of a tech freak than I am a creative freak, in the Music-and-Lyric end of music…
I have this Gibson GA-6 Guitar Amp that needs some attention… It belongs to the Guitar Player on the last Bar room stage I worked on…

I’d really like to get it restored, before Christmas… and get it back to him as a Christmas Gift…
Maybe…
We’ll see…

Bill…

HEy Bill

I got those files and they are a bit beyond me…(your talking to a person whom spent 10 years with Ntrack and still doesn’t know what all the buttons do)

I thought it was going to be an .exe file extention you know the kind when download a software from the internet and it executes and loads itself… ???

I have no idea what a dll file is let alone all the file paths you graciously took the time to outline in the letter with the Tape sim files in it.

It is much appreciated tho!

keep shinin

jerm

Hi jeremysdemo:

We are in the same BOAT…
Sir…
I have a folder-or-two left in the MaxX folder that have some other stuff, yet…

If I continue to look I just might have a few other Tape Saturation plugs to share with you…
Let me have a look, I’ll get back here on the Board if I discover anything this looks interesting…

Maybe, they’ll work with a VISTA Desk ????

Bill…

If phoo was only available, he may be able to explain to us what we might need to know to progress with the files we have to make this plug work for us…

I haven’t seen phoo for quite some time…
He may be busy, or moved on…
I hope he is O.K. and all…
????
