What's the best software you can buy for $50?

So what is the best bit of software that $50 will buy you? Doesn’t have to be audio related.

N and R are givens of course

Openoffice.org. It’s free! :agree:

Liquid Sonics True Stereo Reverb

izotope nectar… its free as a torrent download now!

sorry couldnt resist that

I know - my restraint was strained!

You can’t buy n for 50 bucks.

R for the win. Period. (Music related)

I’m with Tom on OpenOffice for non music though. :)

Now, don’t start that izotope thing again or I’m gonna bad you all. ???

As long as it’s 10-32, it’ll hold Audio Hardware to the Rack Rails…
It don’t matter what ends of the earth you’re from…

What is that?

Practically the first (pre steinberg) real midi sequencing s/w.

Atari?
Apple? I can’t find a reference to it anywhere.

I found this topic quite intriguing. I spent quite few years as a poor student, and got used to using just free or cheap software. The mind-set sort of stuck. Being an working man these days, I could afford something more costly, but on the other hand, there seems to be less time and energy to spend on music, so going upscale seems a bit pointless.
Also, finding something that does a lot for very little has its own charm.

Been years since I used any of these, but still:
Fruity Loops on sale is a contender.
GoldWave gotta be mentioned here
Awave Audio also weights in under 50$, though the Studio version costs more.

Leaving the audio applications, here is one to consider if you are running your own business:
Google Apps for Business. I’m using the free version myself, and for my personal and small business needs, that has been both sufficient and convenient so far. File Sharing is especially nice. The Business version seems to offer more in terms of security and storage, although I guess you could choke it trying to share a gazillion audio files. Guess there’s a better tool for that somewhere. Also, it is not the sole net-based office.
